Just picked up a new one today - absquatulate - though I now see it was introduced here by the sadly departed Chuks on Feb 6th 2016! Obviously not paying attention.....

Well chuks certainly absquatulated, sadly, as you say.

absquatulate - to leave abruptly.

Everyone gets to do the right thing at least once in their lives.
Been in data comm since we formed the bits individually with a Morse key.

Ah, I remember some wonderfully entertaining humdingers between you and chuks, Mr Smith... =)) ;)))

Clearly the word of the day there was "humdinger".
humdinger (n.) 1883, American English, probably from dinger, an early 19c. slang word for anything superlative; also see hummer. humdinger ( n.)

Tranche, a French word meaning "slice" or "portion."

Evidently in the world of investing, it is used to describe a security that can be split up into smaller pieces and subsequently sold to investors.

It seems to be in use now instead of the perfectly good part, allotment, allocation, portion of anything.
And with the morn, those angel faces smile...

"Portion" has other connotations as well!

(Look up Jethro - British Comedian and watch a few of his performances if you are uncertain, should not take too long before he uses it )

Somniloquy - sleep talking
somniloquy
stars dribbling lost stories
across superstitious skies—
we study the wrinkles
in yawning constellations.
c r a c k s in our life where secrets
are smoked into midnight air—
our innocent teeth ache
as we silently taste
these glass words.

Back to #89 I was always pretty sure that a gerund was an implement of wrought iron fettled by a local smith used for dispatching haggisses on the hill once you'd tired them out chasing them around the hill then reversing direction and catching them when they fell over (assymetric legs they have).
Have I been labouring under a misapprehension for all of my 79 years? Buggah!

I never came across a gerund until I learned Danish - despite having learned English at grammar school.

Encarmine means 'to turn red' or 'to cover in blood'.

From my local newspaper.
