I never came across a gerund until I learned Danish - despite having learned English at grammar school.

I never came across a 'Gerund' until now, no Idea there was a word for such a thing...astounding....

How is your Danish now G-CPTN?....I tried to teach myself some a few years back when visiting CPH., and whilst everyone speaks English, my attempts at Danish were very well received indeed!....I enjoyed learning as much as I could...very interesting.

But I could hardly call myself fluent at all! ... especially there as there is, like in Australian English to abbreviate words so much...

....Just checked Mrs Fliegs (Hungover still....), she also had never ever heard of a 'Gerund'...

D1 did a school exchange in Denmark and could carry on a conversation when she came home, but I doubt whether she could remember much of it now. She also did a year of intensive Japanese when living in Tokyo, but again, I doubt that she has spoken a word of it in the last 15 years.

Why do some people pick up languages like others pick up measles?

Me, I'm dead jealous. I struggle with English.

For a while after returning to the UK we maintained our Danish as a secret language - though no longer.
The occasional tourbus to our village gave the opportunity to snakke Dansk (though not for a couple of years now due to Covid).

So my Danish is very rusty and nearly 30 years ago.

Today I will, mostly, be thinking of tintinnabulation... a ringing or tinkling sound...

My tinnitus is different. I have a constant low-level fixed pitch noise. I suppose that is easier to live with than ding dongs.

No, more like a very high-pressure relief valve, possibly the result of reading some posters here

I mentioned my tinnitus to an audiology sales rep I met who said that ~4,000 HZ was a common frequency for it.
I downloaded a frequency generator app to my phone and surprise, surprise.
Tone matched very close to that.
