Just finished watching all two and half hours of a repeat of the Funeral. Dozed off during last night so missed a fair bit. Local time was pretty late. Found it quite moving. Having served feel a sense of one with those in uniform attending. I am a died in the wool monarchist.

Given a tendency for older couples who have been together for a very long time to follow each other. Sadly I suspect that HMQ may not be with us for very long now. Either that or she will abdicate. Not sure that Charles will engender the same sense of loyalty, although William might if the crown passed straight to him.
Rev Mother Bene Gesserit.

HM The Late QM lasted 50 years after her husband died. HMQ will carry on for some years and will not abdicate. Seems that HRH PC is going to get more involved with running 'The Firm'. Wonder if he will do the weekly PM meetings.

HMQ will carry on for some years
Perhaps worth remembering she is 94?

It might be true of a wholly inter dependent couple but possibly not in her case. My MiL in 96 and lost her husband 20 years ago.
She was very dependent upon him. She managed money for daily living but did not have her own bank account. In a woke world she was abused but has born the last year of lockdown with fortitude.
She still drives to the shops and only in the last 4 years has she employed a gardener, but still washes windows and keeps a neat home only recently refurnished bedroom and living room and survived a burglary 2 years ago.
The Queen is of her generation.

My daughter sent me this link this morning, it's from the Bild am Sonntag and shows Philip photographed in 1957 alongside a photo of Harry. The headline says "Harry has his charming smile from his Grandad".

Statistically speaking, her median life expectancy is a little over three years.

An acquaintance who owns and runs a couple of nursing homes once told me that the life expectancy of a very elderly person is reduced by half after a spouse dies. Typical range is one and a half to three and a half years. In the case of HMQ I think is likely to be extended somewhat as she has the very best of nutrition and healthcare and she still has a very fulfilling 'job'.

I bet that Landrover was fettled to within an inch of its life - couldn't have it dumping the contents of its sump onto Betty's finest gravel drive could we?
No sump.
Saw on the news this morning that the LR was "electrified"

PP, I said that, no exhaust but it did appear to have a rear diff. I wonder if it was just FWD.

A lot of electric cars only have one motor driving a transmission, so it's quite possible that it's still 4WD.

Almost certainly a diesel. In this video, you can hear the engine.

Read recently that HM said "I pledge my lifetime service to you be it a short or long life", or similar, when she took the thrown, so if true, no, I guess she will not abdicate she'll hang about until she dies....but as outlines above that may ne sooner than later, but looking at her Mum, 'Lillibet' may well be sending a telegram to herself!

There were a few candidates as chromosome donors, weren't there? Poor bloody woman was brought in as a brood mare, after which no-one seemed to give a sh!t.
