Aagh!

From the BBC weather report for my area.!

Today
This morning, very heavy downpours will move in from the south. Thunder and lightening is likely and rain could be torrential at times. The afternoon will see further heavy, thundery spells of rain.
Ah, clearly they meant that after the torrential rain the sun might shine through casting light on an otherwise dull day.

Oh, perhaps not. 😕

Did you two go to the same school together, and if so, who stabbed whom with the pointy end of the compass during a boring geometry class? ;))) =))

TGG, you may recall that
wazzocks
caused a certain confusion in the Chamber when our former MP used that word.
Horncastle's MP Victoria Atkins has spoken out against banning US presidential hopeful Donald Trump - adding some of her constituents would consider him a 'wazzock' following his controversial comments about Muslims.

Here is another intensely irritating word often used, perfectly correctly, by musicians in the modern idiom.

"Gig"..... :-?

Am I just turning into a grumpy old man?
Indeed, gig-economy as BLACK would now appear a non-U word.

Will black market and black marketeer be one non-U too?

No longer, then, will I have a black mark against my name, or be black-balled? (other colours are available)

Are blue balls the masculine equivalent of blue stocking.
Don't forget blue funk of course.
Then we have white rage.
Yellow jaundice and green envy or around the gills. Is brown study permitted?
And play the white man, both racist and sexist.

Ah the blue stocking, the staple of this man's fantasies, always ends up with the lady taking her glasses off, unclipping her bun and shaking her flaxen tresses down and removing... er sorry, I was off on a reverie there... =))

Some music (and a cold shower) quickly maestro...

Don't worry about the Salad Creme, PHX. It's a bit passé now - everyone calls it mayo :)

Ah yes, wazzock. An expression which originates in Yorkshire I believe.

Salad creme has far less fat than Mayo, It is more subtle tasting. American firms like Kraft are clueless when it comes to these subtle differences, as, so it appears, are the British who will eat any old crap and who are even more clueless than the Americans when it comes to these things! :ymdevil: ;))) =)) .

Salad cream and sandwich spread two more vile concoctions that I hope never to pass my lips. Branston pickle another that masks the subtle flavour of cheese.
OTOH, Welsh rarebit or macaroni cheese demands a good application of Lee Perins, much in the same way that fish and chips needs malt vinegar and salt.

That latter prompts a question : do you apply the vinegar first?

:) You were probably too well brought up, Ian!

The verb 'To Waz' in northern English dialect means to urinate.

In both West Yorkshire and East Lancashire, offal was very popular and when produced en masse the offal was cooked in linens resembling large pillows and were referred to as 'socks'. These prevented the offal from burning and being ruined when coming in to direct contact with the base or sides of its cooking vessel.

Unsurprisingly these linens absorbed the odour of the offal (which is similar to urine) and were discarded. They were colloquially referred to as 'Waz Socks'. The derogatory sense of a 'Wazzock' to this day refers to someone discarded of having any point, purpose or worth.
"Don't mind Geoffrey, He's a wazzock"

I think 'Going for a waz' is more widespread than just Yorkshire!
