Waitanga Day will be Sunday 6th February 2022 and we plan a busy weekend at our museum airfield to celebrate.

Friday 4th will see the arrival of historical aircraft, vintage cars and military vehicles and equipment Vietnam War era and earlier back to 19th century.

About half our museum aircraft will be dragged outdoors for their annual dose of vitamin D and put on display for visitors. Historical military groups will set up encampments and displays both outdoors and indoors. Our usual museum aircraft will be on display along with visiting veteran aircraft including, maybe, ex-Prince Charles' Chipmunk. If you are really good you might be able to put your sticky fingers on such memory stirring delights as a Tiger Moth, Harrier, Mig 17, Hunter, Canberra and L28 (last three cockpits only). DC3, Proctor, Skyhawk and a few others (three dozen or so). The ATR72 simulator will probably be operating as with the C150 sim (kiddy size cockpit) but the Link will be display only. There will be a handful of aircraft quite possibly previously unknown to you.

Bands will provide suitable martial music and we will have marching, rides on military and antique vehicles and hot sausages on sticks.

The bar will be operating in the 'Round Hangar'. Evening activities will likely involve eating, drinking, music, dancing, speeches, singing and the telling of highly exaggerated tales.

We plan for the main public displays to be the Saturday and Sunday while Monday will see visitors busy packing up, moving out while we will be busy picking up trash, washing the eating and drinking utensils and no doubt crushing a few barrels of empty cans.

So keep the weekend clear, have your old uniforms cleaned for parade and bring your well stocked plastic cards. We need about $1,250,000 for our building fund.

Chrisley Super Ace should be looking smart again by then...

...not sure about those Tiger frames in the rafters or the Slingsby wings on the wall!
