The wind reached the Humber about 0800, forecast for about 50mph but hasn't got above 30 yet. Mrs 1DC has no choice she has to face the weather, it being hairdresser day and she is having a perm!! What a brave girl.

Good Morning Everybody,
from the overnight low of 7c we have clawed up to 11c in a brisk North Westerly gusting to a mere 38km/h.
Crystal and million mile viz.

SM is not good today, serious diarrhoea, might be last night's curry but I doubt it, she has good curry tolerance.

Off out for a four or five stop shop, items food and hardware required.

Had a good birthday day yesterday, a visit to Sammy Millers motorcycle museum in the New Forest, there are over 450 motorbikes on display, I was able to show missus om each one in detail and explain all the points of interest. Birthdays have dietary prohibitions suspended for the day, I had IPA, Wainwrights golden ale, Wadworth 6X, heavily salted processed meats, chilli gherkins, a bottle of Chilean Block 18 and a vast piece of chocolate cake.

Broccoli Bake for lunch today.

Bad weather, sleet, trees down and roads blocked, a little shed time planned for this afternoon.

ALDI (at least in Spain) is selling Original Sloans massage cream, hot and cold varieties. Tube is a reproduction of the first packaging. One sniff is guaranteed to take you back to the 1940/1950s...

Next year I hope to be able to buy Dr Collis Brown's cough medicine (with morphine) and the original Victory V lozenges (with chloroform.)

Never did us kids any harm, but we weren't snowflakes then.

In central Scotland we somehow evaded all this reported bad weather.

Somehow we avoided any power cuts when the storm hit. The SSEN power cut app shows us surrounded by them and I gave up counting the number in NE Scotland just now when I got to 200. Our driveway is blocked by a large fallen rowan - chainsaw will be out later. We lost three very mature beech trees in our wood, one of which was rotten and within falling distance of our 11kv spur. SSEN were supposed to take it down so it’s saved them a job. At least it fell with the wind away from the line.

No internet since 1400 yesterday due to a power cut near Aberdeen. That’s not due to be fixed until 2200 today.

An SMS from the Electricity provider informed of an imminent power cut, with an invitation to access their website for further information.

Without internet (no power to router) how would that be possible?

I love the way it crops off the tops of the windspeed graph at 60kt, as if the other stuff above doesn't matter.
Very Orkney!
That's probably the point at which the anemometer flies apart due to the forces on it. A bit like turbine or engine overspeed.
There's an apocryphal story of a local radio station phoning the Coastguard site asking about wind speed. The coastguard said he was unable to give a precise speed because the anemometer blew away at 110mph but if it was any help the wind had just blown his Land Rover over the cliff.

Miss Botswana is off to the Miss World competition. Me not wasting any money at the bookies on this one. Those thighs could crack a coconut.

Edit, just asked our housekeeper and gardener they do not think that she is attractive either.
Just watching the RSA Barbarians match. Miss Bots would have lots of competition from the RSA rugby team.

PHX, my MiFit doesn't record getting up to pee in the night, but if you look at the step counter before and after shaking your Willy you'll see the number of shakes recorded, depending on which wrist the Band is on and the fervour of the shakes.

This evening's view from our terrace over the Bay of Roses. Beautiful but cold.
