Afternoon folks. Thought that I had posted. Obviously didn't hit 'submit'. Clear skies 12°c at dawn 27 °c now at lunchtime. The hippos seem to have wandered off, can hear them up river though. The bat count is up to 26. 34 was our max a few years back.

Our idiot Júnior night guard (gardener) disappeared again last night. In bed I just glanced through the CCTV cameras and he wasn't at his post. Went outside and called for him, then sounded the emergency horn. Nothing. Turned out that the little ***** was somewhere on the estate plugged into loud jungle noise. Sent him home. Tonight is his last chance to get it right or he is dismissed. His father can do a random 5 nights a week and we will risk it whilst the thieving black bastards are locked up.

Doc has grounded be from me canal because of me hurty back. Managed to get booked in for physio in a fortnight - until then it's a case of rolling on the floor three times a day doing exercises. Making sure I do them - otherwise I will get nagged by 'er indoors.

HONG KONG — Hong Kong’s iconic Jumbo Floating Restaurant has capsized in the South China Sea less than a week after it was towed away from the city, its parent company said Monday.

The restaurant encountered “adverse conditions” on Saturday as it was passing the Xisha Islands, also known as the Paracel Islands, in the South China Sea, and water entered the vessel and it began to tip, according to Aberdeen Restaurant Enterprises Ltd.

The company said no one was injured, but that efforts to save the vessel failed and it capsized on Sunday.
Because the accident happened in waters more than 3,000 feet deep, it will be “extremely difficult to carry out salvage works,” the company said in a statement.

It said the company “is very saddened by this accident.”

The Jumbo Floating Restaurant, almost 260 feet in length, had been a landmark in Hong Kong for over four decades, serving Cantonese cuisine to over 3 million guests including Queen Elizabeth II and Tom Cruise.

It closed in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and laid off all its staff. Aberdeen Restaurant Enterprises said the restaurant became a financial burden to its shareholders, with millions of Hong Kong dollars spent on its inspection and maintenance even though it was not in operation.

The restaurant was towed away last Tuesday. The company said it planned to move it to a lower-cost site where maintenance could be carried out.

It said that before its departure, the vessel had been thoroughly inspected by marine engineers and hoardings were installed, and all relevant approvals were obtained.

“The company is now getting further details of the accident from the towing company,” the statement said.

Morning folks. My thoughts exactly PN. Very convenient.

I usually sit by the pool with my computer. Very windy this morning, a branch missed me by a few feet. Many more dead branches up there. I have moved to the veranda where the only thing likely to land is bat poo. 26 again today.

After the Júnior security guard got threatened with dismissal, if he didn't pull his socks up, he did perfectly last night. Bollocked him whilst his mother was around yesterday. Think he was spoken to by father. If dismissed it would be a lack of revenue to the family of £53 a month which is a fortune to them. Just proves that he can do the duty he just doesn't give a stuff.

Perhaps I should persuade our big air charter company here to fit floats to their 208s. I will speak to the GM next time I see him. Wonder what TOD they require on water. Great if they could land on our lagoon. Would a hippo strike be a first? Speaking of which they have just come back after a 24 hr holiday. Out of the water the other side.

Somewhat a difficult morning. I went to the pool and did about 1.5 km. Then went to a local pharmacy, was tested (believing it was not-necessary) and before I had time to wait for the result I got the news I wasn't expected. Then I had an issue with the local Belgian owned food store. Returning home I was offered home office but didn't have a suitable headset. The one for mobile doesn't work reliably.
