Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Years ago when at Brize, No 1 daughter had a severe ear infection. Had to take her to John Radcliffe in Oxford where they gave her some antibiotics and an appointment to come back for a check in 2 days time. Arrived for appointment to find a packed, unventilated waiting room and a subsequent 70 minute wait to see the doctor. When I queried what emergency had caused the doctor to be so late, was told they had told everyone to arrive at the same time. They were very surprised at my comments about herding so many children into a stuffy ENT waiting room, let alone the arrogance about wasting the parent's time.

Good Moaning,
16c seaweed 22c, Dome.
Some hospital departments here give an appointment as "approximately"
Nothing scheduled, think I'll go for a whisky run to Nerja.
Just having Strawberries for breakfast 1.72€ for 500gm
I await a knee report.

Our bank in Luxembourg will not allow clients to live in Africa. We have to prove we live in Greece. We sent them the deeds to our house all in legal Greek. That took them some time to unravel. Now they want tax numbers and all sorts of other junk. Fortunately we have the documents here. Just sent off all that to them. Again all in Greek of course. Let us see how long that keeps them quiet for.

Morning. Knee not as painful this morning, but had to have assistance from neighbour in getting from floor to recliner, where I spent the night. Appetite is returning.

(The following said in my best Prof Julius Sumner Miller voice;)Our bank in Luxembourg will not allow clients to live in Africa.
"Why is this so, Capt Ex-Ascot?"
I would have thought that it is absolutely no fornicating business of any Bank to dictate where any of its 'Clients' can or cannot live!
You only live twice. Once when you're born. Once when you've looked death in the face.

That explains why that Nigerian prince keeps asking me to help him get his money out of the country.[Our bank in Luxembourg will not allow clients to live in Africa.]
Picked up our tax return yesterday from our accountant. Nice refund coming to chez Limey

Nice day on the Humber,sunny,12C but a cool breeze off the North Sea so a walk along the prom is not on the agenda
Lock on the front door started to give problems, is a fancy secure job and some of the gearing has failed. Some on here would have just fixed it but this one has shelled out 195 quid for someone else to replace it instead. The expert said that they have a good reputation but complicated things have a tendency to fail and when they do it is quicker and cheaper to replace rather than repair.Very smooth now.

I changed mine myself. Only difficult bit was cutting the tongue on the front portion to the correct length and when in place, feeding the back, inside, portion over it. Cost £100 but meets new fire regs., which the old one didn't.

Dome here in South Africa, just as well with all the load shedding kindly arranged by the Eskom/ ANC corruption scandal.
Warning aviation content, departed Perry Oaks last night and the departure runway was 09L, pretty certain that I’ve never used this one before for a departure, any comments from our professionals, retired or otherwise.

Only once that I can think of, about 1971?, on a VC10 training flight to Bedford.
Once landed on 05, again in a VC10, in the 1970s - very strong winds.
Several times on 23,the last in an A320.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Think that I have done all runways at LHR. Diverted from Brize onto 23 due to strong winds a couple of times the Royal Air Force was not happy but most of my pax were as they were for London anyway.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Used it a few times during my command training at LHR, but it is unusual because of the 'Cranford Agreement', which, although now 'expired', prevented runway alternation for departures on easterlies during the day. Your 'night' departure fits the bill.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
EGFF Airport, or Rhoose /Cardiff-Wales, before it became Cardiff International and subsequently fell into the decline in which still finds itself post Covid, used to have a 03/21 cross runway that was seldom used and which I only got to use once on a 21 approach in a light twin and was horribly surprised (despite the warning on the approach plate) by the turbulence that the huge BA maintenance hangar caused on short final. It would have been better to have stuck with the cross wind landing. An old, but younger, friend, now a sober minded Captain with a well known airline which I wont mention to spare his blushes, did a run and break, after a rush of blood to the head, and with clearance from the tower to do same, in an EA300 and nearly came a cropper due to the rotor coming off the hangar. It was most interesting to watch. The cross runway has long been downgraded to a taxiway and such impromptu displays of youthful foolishness banished forever.

Hmmm, one must be going doolally. Posted a comment on here earlier this afternoon, now damn thing has vanished. I'm pretty sure I pressed the 'Submit' thingy before posting a comment on the 'Chaos in Scotland' thread.

Recently bought 250g of strawberries, grown in the lower North Island, for $6.99. Very pricy, may be the last I'll have for the season.
Had car checked over yesterday after its brief failure to start last week. Of course, nothing was found.
Pleasant to hear rain pattering on the roof last night, trickling and gurgling in the spouting.
Today = overcast, 13.7°C expecting 16°C.

Just in the last few days the afternoon sun has appeared below the top of the french windows at this time of day, shining straight at me and rendering the laptop very hard to see for, I dunno, half an hour or so.
