Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
A US 'soldier' willingly entered North Korea via the DMZ.
The US authorities are trying to establish contact with a view to 'recovering' said soldier.
I say leave him to his fate.

On my way to the garden centre today, spotted one of them speed camera vans. On returning from the garden centre, the van was still there so I obediently observed the speed limit for that stretch of road (50 mph). Not so the driver of the white BMW who rapidly came up behind me and decided that 50mph was too slow for him and overtook me. Just before he reached the camera van he must have spotted it cos his brake lights came on accompanied by smoke from his tyres. Too late methinks to stop a letter from Lincolnshire plod asking for financial payment.

The 'worst' case that I saw of a camera van was where the van was positioned on a hill about a mile (?) away from the 'observed' section of highway (and yes, the camera has a telephoto lens and can work over very long distances).
I talked with the operators and they explained that they were having a 'field day'.

Why is the quality of daytime sleep so different from that of night time sleep? Aches and pains (muscles, joints) also seem different.

The BBC forecast for us is looking good. None of these nasty heatwaves and/or floods.

Morning all, a bit of cloud around today, currently 11c, forecast max 18c. Had trouble getting to sleep for the last couple of nights, I suspect because I've been busy doing design stuff and haven't been getting much physical activity.

Just a question: A while back someone posted a photo of a Soldier down on one knee aiming his Rifle, with the caption "This is how a real Man takes a knee."
I cannot remember which thread it was in. Can someone please enlighten me?
Twas me. It should have gone onto the jokes thread if I got it right.

I often ask myself that very same question. I couldn't see who was driving as they whizzed past because of the all-round darkened windows.
Hedge trimming to be done today and runner beans to be harvested. Mrs 4ma likes runner beans - don't know what we're having with them but she says she wants runner beans for dinner tonight.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
I drive a BMW and I take great exception to the comments about drivers of such vehicles. What other road users don't realise, especially including Mercedes and Audi drivers, is that the roads were built for us. However, the idiots who built them did not realise that the BMW is the most superior car on the road, and should be recognised as such. I will, reluctantly, pull over for emergency vehicles to overtake me, if they can go fast enough to do so, but otherwise, vehicles are there to be ovetaken, because they're journeys are not as important as mine.4mastacker wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2023 8:14 amI often ask myself that very same question. (I jest of course; my BMW is a 216 Series, so it's not in the habit of doing more than 70 mph! )

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
They "modernised" our local roundabout, a single road entering it became 2 lane and the 2 lane leaving it went back to one lane. It now makes it easy to overtake on the roundabout. Very few people bother arsing about like this and pushing in at the exit from the roundabout apart from the BMW drivers. (Never seen anyone do it in a 216)
Occasionally we get a kiss at the exit when two cars won't give way to each other, amazing how often it is two BMW's..

In my last years in Germany I drove a Mercedes 190d and BMW 3 series, petrol. When new, the BMW was far more the sports car. After a year over the wretched cobblestones of Darmstadt, the BMW rattled and the Mercedes didn't. The ignition system (cables) of the BMW attracted the attentions of a pine-marten which did it no good whatsoever.

Mercedes drivers here in the UK seem to be dawdling inappropriate lane hoggers, slow speed wobblers who might even wear flat caps while lazing and dawdling in a cocoon of luxury, opulence and faux safety!OFSO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2023 11:17 amIn my last years in Germany I drove a Mercedes 190d and BMW 3 series, petrol. Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Strong sewer smell in villa. I didn't mention it to wife but looked in cellar. No signs of leak.
Wife noticed it. Sent me down the mountainside. Yes, vent pipe I put in leaking liquid instead of air.
Back up hill, in front door, down into cellar.
Opened LOWER* side of u-bend. Inserted tool I made, bent piece of iron. Riddled furiously. Suddenly gurgled grunted and widdled inside the joint: blockage released.
* if a sewer u-bend has a blockage, it's not recommended to free it from the UPPER side when the house is on a 45° slope. Not unless you are wearing a Hazmat Suit.

Summoned assistance from DD1 this morning, she has delivered Cargo in the form of fancy lemon-lime electrolyte sachets such as she uses when running, grapes, soup and some good-quality frozen meals. She wore a mask...
Will start with the electrolyte drink and some grapes.
Mostly blue skies, 4.6°C, going to bucket down wi' rain later, they say.
