Smeagol is now a lot happier!
Heating has been restored thanks to a VERY efficient company. Called them on Thursday and explained my problem, man came yesterday to survey the oil tank, location etc. "No problem " he said. Two chaps arrived at 10:30 this morning, pumped out and filtered oil in existing tank, removed empty tank, installed new tank, cleaned and flushed delivery line to boiler, bled air from system and fired up boiler. All done and dusted in two hours thirty minutes. Even the cost was, whilst not cheap, not a total rip-off and considering the alternative was a very cold Christmas and New Year. Sent a thank you email to works manager and gave the lads who installed enough for a couple of drinks each. Great service and money well spent I think.

Another hand-delivered notice has just (5pm on Tue 19 Dec) been delivered, telling us that the water is now quite safe to drink..ricardian wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 9:42 pmProblems with our water!
The two Scottish Water chaps who live on the island have been hand-delivering notices to all houses warning us to boil water before using it. Such a shame after £3,000,000 was spent on upgrading the water treatment works on the island only 4 years ago. I shall just have to start on the Xmas home-brew

Which to me sounds like the closest you will get to Scottish Water admitting they took the sample from a dirty tap.Investigations on site, and the further sample results now obtained, provide confidence that there is no risk to public health.

Good morning all, 9/15. grey skies, currently 23C, forecast max 28C. Ensconced at D2's, but disaster! We didn't bring a coffee plunger. Shall discuss the matter with she who is in charge of packing and logistics.
D1 & D2 have gone for a 'fast' walk. I will go for a slow on when I muster the energy. I believe the ladies of the household are planning a shopping raid for today.

5/15 should have done better. Dull day on the Humber but I did get a bacon sandwich. A high of 10 and very windy. A bit of a dilemma, perusing the Christmas films on the telly and Zulu is on on New Years Eve but it clashes with Ghandi. Decisions,Decisions!! A couple of free days starting tomorrow,Mrs 1DC and Oz daughter are going to York until Thursday evening. The Oz Boxing Day lottery is $90,000,000,I offered to split a tenner on it with Oz daughter but you can't place a bet on it if you are outside Australia, another opportunity missed or the majority would probably say a tenner saved..

is his prediction for the day, washing will have to be hung in the breezeway if it is to have a chance of drying.

Did one of those medium-sad funerals today. Deceased was 100; survived to get a letter from the King (did a bit of a Hmmph, I gather: would have preferred one from the proper monarch) but left only seven survivors including a 2-yr-old granddaughter.
And two dogs who came to the crematorium.
Crem assistant muttered 'Oh no!' as they got out of the car. Turned out that there had been a large Ger Shepherd yesterday who had pooped all the way up the aisle. Featured, gently steaming, I gather, in the podcast and video...
Today's was decorous. But, as I say, medium sad.

Good work, Rev
I would have said 'Good job' but I don't want you thinking I'm on the dog's side...

Roads tacky and fragrant in places with melting tar.
31°C outdoors, 26°C indoors: heat-pump set to 'cool'
Think I need to find something snowy to watch, like Home Alone
or On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Having a glass of new-to-me Bundaberg Peach Sparkling Drink - it is nice

The A48 just North of Chepstow has also been a bit sticky over the weekend. A tanker carrying glucose hit a railway bridge on Saturday. Efforts to clean the road took 3 days.

Morning folks. Broken Cu warm no rain. We dropped the borehole pump down 2m further the other day. Topped up the pool it is now green and cloudy.
Pretty sure that the night guards are having hot showers at night. No hot water yesterday and no water at all today. The little shits just have a bucket of river water to wash in at home.

'Morning all,
Yesyerday's high was 14c. This morning already 15c with the master predictor saying 21c.
Dome naturally, the earlier Lenticular Cumulus having dissipated.
Paid my share of the road concreting so just awaiting the machines.
They are going to grade the track first, dunno when, followed by concreting starting 26th.
26th a normal working day here.
I have never had any form of prostate check. I have no symptoms.
At my last blood test I asked Doc for a PSA test, curiosity really.
She refused, said without symptoms at 73 there was no point.

I disagree. Although the relationship between PSA and cancer is imprecise, it's the change that matters. The question one hears most is "what was it like last time?"
My brother in law had no symptoms at all. His boss insisted on a physical exam. Check revealed very high PSA. Fast growing malignant cancer, prostate removed, saved his life. Private medicine always does a PSA . National health does not bother as it costs.
