Will make some sourdough bread when I get home. I can't be bothered with faffing about feeding starter and being precious with it. I have a recipe for a sponge you make the night before and then bung it in with the rest of the ingredients the next day. Simples
Love sourdough.
Its low glycemic index makes it the only bread not on my naughty list.
I got some new starter from a lady on the NextDoor site but haven't used it yet.
My I have a copy of your "lazy baking" recipe? :YMPRAY: :D

Good morning. Nautical twilight still here, and 13°C. It will become much warmer today.

Blowing snow. Viz occasionally dropping to zero out my window.
One of the main highways has an accident blocking most of it and the Mounties are advising everyone to stay home. Same in Cape Breton.
Looks like a batch cooking afternoon!

That was me yesterday.

We lost a tree. I was even watching when it happened, a sudden intense gust of wind and a crack, and it went down.

Fortunately my evaluation of it a couple of weeks ago was correct, it came down clear of the power lines. I had been considering trimming it anyway, now I guess I have to wait a couple of days for the weather to ease and go exercise the chainsaw.

six_and_a_half_pines.jpg
The six and a half Scots Pines that stand out from the treeline to the east of me. There were 10 when I moved here, and the remnants of a couple can be seen.

The field between is usually pretty clear of snow, as the prevailing wind runs left to right. The snow ends up on the road at the end of the field.

The snowplows have been pulled off the minor roads due to visibility and abandoned vehicles.
With the heavy drifting, any abandoned vehicle simply becomes a snowdrift after 20 minutes.

On the plus side, people are now using their snowmobiles along the minor roads (two have just passed me) as they know the roads are snow-covered and they won't meet a plow!

22:00 and my outside display is reading 19°c. Must say it didn't feel cold on my nightwalk.
Cat Marlene brough me a present this evening. Nice little bird, possibly a wagtail. No obvious signs of the method of murder, other than the cat had its teeth in the back of the neck.

My Grandmother was an expert sourdough maker, although in those days, in outback far north Queensland, it was just called bread, as that's what everyone made. D1 has a cheap gold bangle that Gm received as a prize for bread baking from the agricultural show at a 'nearby' town, together with the letter that accompanied it. A handwritten PS says "PS. You owe us 1/3 (one shilling & three pence) for freight on the bread."

Latest reports from my area is that one snowplow is in the ditch, as is the car that was following it, another snowplow has been abandoned, and three cars abandoned in the middle of the main highway.
The only people still driving seem to be those trying to get medical staff to their hospital shifts.

Cape Breton has just declared a 7 day State of Emergency.

And we have another 24 hours of this at least. There's a big stalled Low off the coast of Nova Scotia.

Someone has just posted a photo of some Amish out in their horse-drawn buggy - they seem to be OK!

The snow here disappeared a week ago but today, after the existing one snapped, I put in a new auger belt in my snowblower and it’s up and running. That’s a sure sign we won’t get any more snow this season.

My 'blower is ready to go, though of course the problem at the moment would be getting the hundred feet or so to the barn. Very easy to get disorientated, and people do die around here attempting such.
Fortunately the wind isn't full storm strength, and almost everyone still has power. However, anyone who loses power from now on is stuffed because the repair crews can't move.

Morning folks. No snow here blazing sunshine. Mammoth watering.

According to Trip Advisor reports by visitors to London they say that Big Ben should be digital. ~X(

Wouldn't be useful to have a line running between the barn and the house?

How do you apply for the position of Pinemartin poo counter?
As jobs go, it is far from the most glamorous role.
Pine marten researchers Johnny Birks and John Martin are trying to establish if pine martens can thrive in productive timber forests.
Every autumn they return to the Forest of Ae and Castle O'er in Dumfries and Galloway to count poo.
The numbers of droppings - or scats - are on the rise which, in turn, shows the population of the protected species is making "encouraging" progress.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Perhaps they should ask the Finnish, pine martens seem to do all right here.

See them, from time to time, in my forest and occasionally in the garden.

As I left for the gym at 08:30 it was 16° up at our house. Down the mountain and across the marsh, 2° and frost icon lit up in car. Currently outside at 11:30 it's 22° on our terrace. Crazy.

I suppose this is a bit really boring and probably shouldn't be mentioned but one of the Irish blokes Max 8 aeroplanes from Gothernberg to Manchester has just flown over the Towers at 25000 feet and 300kts making a lot of noise, should normally be a lot higher crossing the Humber.
