I'm always slightly bemused by the question "do you want to do it again?"
Oh, good - I thought I was the only one...

Hydro, get well as soon as possible, you know that hospitals are good for getting well but not for getting uninterrupted sleep.
13/15 for the quiz, they need to keep asking questions like that as it gives me a fighting chance of obtaining a decent score.

An impressive performance by Amazon and the British Postal Service. At about 22:20 last night I ordered a small item ("order within 16 minutes for next day delivery"). The package was delivered by Royal Mail by lunchtime! That's impressive.

Morning all, 13/15. Sorry, when I said that I'd be in hospital for a couple of weeks, it should have been a couple of days (I hope). Still no idea though. Thanks for your thoughts and pm.
Looks nice and sunny outside.

While a couple of days is better than a couple of weeks, a couple of days in hospital is not necessarily a piece of cake.

Morning folks. Hot, broken Cu. Got about three drops of rain yesterday. Saw our friend who was attacked. She is is having mobility problems with her MS and cracked ribs now. Big dressings where they burnt her with the iron. She is in surprisingly good spirits. Said that the robbers were quite surprised when she laid into them with her walking stick. That is when they drew a knife on her but didn't stab her.

All the best from Botswana Hydromet.

Hydro-glad to hear you are on the mend. Keep hydrating-flush those kidneys out! :YMHUG:

Hope Mrs. OFSO is doing better :YMHUG:

Spent a lovely morning yesterday planting out my tomatoes and generally pottering about in the garden. Weather has been crap lately-fog, rain. Yesterday was the first sunny day we have had in a while. I will try and finish planting the rest of my veg and flowers that I grew from seed. This evening promises to be rainy.

Might not get mail for a while-our posty likes to stop and chat with us on the porch. He asked me about the coming election. When I said I wasn't a citizen and couldn't vote, he asked me, rather rudely I thought, why I hadn't got my US citizenship. He wasn't too keen on my answer! Are well, the USPS is over-rated!

Ricardian-enjoying the shipwreck updates. Thank you. :-bd

The mention of USPS and the quiz reminds me that I once heard in a quiz a question about which vehicles in the US have right-hand drive. Very few people knew. Is that still the case? I know they drive on the left in the USVI, which long before the days of the internet, was something of a revelation the first time I saw it.

U.S. Mail delivery vehicles and garbage trucks (the type that empty residential trash and recycling bins).

Good morning.

13/15 in this morning's quiz, according to them - their answer to Q9 is wrong.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/quizzes/3501618 ... rch-9-2024

- for the first time ever I used the 'play again' button, to count the questions because I couldn't see that they were numbered anywhere.

They have now corrected Q9, so my score was 14/15.

Replaced the van battery today. A little bit more effort than your usual job because it's under the driver's seat. Extracted the old one, took it to the local parts store, brought the new one home and managed to make it all fit. Also got to use my little saver gadget - use with an external 12V battery, plugs into the ODB port and keeps the volts up while the battery is absent, so the radio, clock and engine management system all retain their content.

Old one said FoMoCo on it, but didn't have a first-charge date visible. It might have been the original from 2015.

Two acquaintances were in a shoot, had their shotguns on the back seat of an old VW Beetle. Drove uphill in the VW Beetle, which had the battery under the rear seat. Revving like mad, generated gases. Suddenly the battery broke free of the clamps, rose up, touched the underside of the rear seat. Spark ignited the gases, blew the back off the VW. They thought their guns had fired. End of story. Sorry.

7/15. Hope you are feeling better Hydro. Been a reasonable day on the Humber, plenty of sunshine 8C which is warm for an Easterly.Seems one of Mrs 1D C's rings has grown smaller so took it to the jewellers to get it made big again.
Took the neighbours dog to the clipper for a haircut he was a bit of a wimp about it.About an hour later neighbour knocks on the door asking if we have seen his dog?, Altzheimers had kicked in and he had forgotten he was at the clippers..He had dropped off to sleep and when he woke up had forgotten where his dog was. All was fine when we put him right. Lousy illness though..
Went to the pub in the next village for tea with friends, they have just started serving meals and it was very nice. It was also nice to see a village pub doing good business it was booming, not very big but full to the gunnels.
Been a busy day for a Friday..
