Supermarket tea ?

English Breakfast is all I’ll ever drink. Any Brand. Keep your Earl Grey’s and the like. Not my cup of tea. ( Pun intended )

Flying around the world cured me of milk and sugar too, tea or coffee black is now my standard. All I needed was tea bags or instant coffee in my briefcase, then the bathroom water and my “dipstick” - cup sized immersion heater - did the necessary. Easy. ( hotels now seem to provide hot water jugs, and supply tea or coffee, but ‘twasn’t always the case )

To assist the Cabin Crew I carried my own camping style plastic mug, on which I had written with nail varnish - Tea, Coffee, Black, No Sugar. I think my nickname was Capt. Nosugar ?

A Flight Eng. also taught me to carry a large paper clip, which straightened out could short out the Set Top Pay Boxes of past eras, to watch the porno movies for free.

Trust a Flight Engineer to have worked that one out.
I have hard water from my well, and by chance I can now get Yorkshire Tea in my local Canadian supermarket. The two are very well suited, as I know from living in Yorkshire.
Failing that I do prefer English Breakfast also.
I am trying to repeat the recipe for Russian Caravan tea, which is no longer blended but tasted delicious. I think I now have all the ingredients.

As a Yorkshireman - brought up in Lancashire ! - I should prefer Yorkshire Tea I guess, but I can’t really tell the difference, and it isn’t available in my N.Z. local supermarket anyway.

Question … Has anyone used a BenjiLock padlock for using on travel luggage? ( they are also TSA approved ) These are opened by fingerprint touch, but have a 3 button manual escape mechanism in case the battery has discharged twixt locking and unlocking after flight ?

I have just bought one but seem to be having an initial charging issue, the red charging light has been on for nearly 6 hours now, tho’ it is suggested in a site FAQ’s that 3 hours should be enough ?

My real question is can I use my IPhone charger, which in view of the charging cable provided seems to be the case, and to which it is presently plugged in ?

The programming of fingerprints looks very complicated, and the instructions give absolutely NO guidance about how to charge.

Cold or pharyngitis is getting worst. A run to the producers market for oranges and to the food store for tissues (I ran out as the nose was running more) and maybe a bottle of wine are in order although I realised I have a good supply of tsipouro / tsikoudia which can be substituted for.

I am an espresso man thus I have a sufficient supply of coffee.

Copied on the 'dipstick' immersion heater, ExSp33dbird. I can't remember where I bought it - some flea market in South America probably, because it had a 'foreign' plug on it. My other 'must ride' was an expensive but reliable short-wave radio, from the days when most hotel rooms didn't have a TV, and even if they did, everything was in foreign anyway. When visiting the Soviet Union, I would take my own universal bath plug (there were never any bath plugs - kleptomania ruled OK - even in those days), and toilet paper, to avoid using their 40 grit stuff, assuming there was any in the first place.

Our very own Banksy at work at the safari camp. He signs his murals 'Prince'. This was commissioned so guests can take photos in front of it pointing out where they have been. A fair bit of talent there. He is ridiculously cheap.

They are lying, Woody - it's grown in greenhouses on the outskirts of Harrogate Lovely tea, though - I wouldn't drink anything else!

Tea leaves from over twenty separate places across Africa and India all end up in Harrogate in Yorkshire and is then expertly blended – hence it's called Yorkshire Tea.

You are not wrong, ExS. If you do not have hard water (and much of Lancashire doesn't), then Yorkshire Tea does not 'work'.
I discovered this when I moved to a soft water area, and stopped drinking it, but now I have hard water again.

Limeygal - Thanks for the tip (not PG ), but it doesn't taste the same.
I discovered, roaming round the internet, that lots of others thought likewise.
The blend made by Jackson's of Piccadilly was the one I really liked, and so did many others. But then they changed the blend for reasons unknown.
There are long blogs where some quite sophisticated people describe their disappointment with this, recount the history of the blend, and their attempts to recreate the perfect blend from the basic tea types.
I have same bookmarked, and will be cracking on with my attempts soon.

Bloody cold out. I am extracting screws, which requires thin or no gloves, so I'm back in quite often to warm the digits.

Post 19293 tango15 …. Yes, I too carried the universal washbasin / bath plug to Moscow, and toilet paper ! and the short wave radio. I was in New Delhi when Russia invaded Afghanistan in 19?? - Radio Moscow suggested that this was at the “invitation” of their friends and allies in that Country. Voice of America suggested that this was an unwanted hostile invasion, and the BBC a more moderate perception. Ask three people and get five different answers.

Dipsticks. Initially only available for 110 volts, but the F/Eng. and myself were once perusing a Bombay bizarre and found 240 V ones. We bought one each and went back to my hotel room, where I decided to check that mine worked by boiling a glass of water. Still chatting sometime later we noticed smoke coming out of the bathroom door ! Upon investigation we found that the glass had boiled dry, cracked and broken and allowed the dipstick to drop on to the towel I had placed the glass on and catch fire !

Fortunately we were in time to stop the hotel catching fire, and I looked outside the room and noticed a maid down the corridor, so beckoning her over I showed her the damage, offered some Rupees and asked her to please clean the bathroom. She agreed to and also said that she would “smuggle” the burnt towel out of the hotel without anyone else noticing. More Rupees changed hands !

Whilst on the subject of hotels, on a NY - Caribbean - NY return day trip I realised that I had left my electric razor cord ( pre-rechargeable days ) behind when I had packed for the day away, so next morning, in a different room, asked Room Service if they had collected my cord the previous day ? Dunno, was the reply, we have some so come down and have a look ? Help yourself, I was told, as I was offered a box of some hundred or so cords, so took 2 that fitted my razor.
