Cloudy & 17C here today. Went to a fantastic local cafe for lunch, & Mrs. H. had her first proper meal since recovering from Covid.

Sanded & oiled the current job, a cutting board for an acquaintance who gave me some nice timber, & decided to make a rolling pin to go with it, from the offcuts.

An earlier comment by Admin2 got me thinking. How many turn their computer off when going to bed ? Unless I,m away on holiday mine stays on 24/7 and has been for many years.Without any verification I was told that the constant heating up and cooling down of the solder joints can cause them to fail.

Doesn't your computer 'shut down' by going to sleep, even when 'always on'?

I have installed quite a few garden variety PCs in airport installations, they run continually, day and night, they keep going until something fails and it is usually the power supply overheats because the fans have failed. Two or three years usually. They do not sleep or otherwise shut down.
Been in data comm since we formed the bits individually with a Morse key.

Afternoon folks done town not too traumatic as we went in last week to do none food shopping. Onions AND potatoes in the shops. Gosh.

The river in town is going into the flood plains, this is great news for us.

A friend's chap cleaned our car. Nice job. However last time we think he used washing up liquid. This time we gave him proper car shampoo. He used half the bloody bottle.

A bit cloudy and cool.

If I left my machine on 24/7 I would need to shut down various polling programmes each time I want peace and quiet to stop their alerts. Much easier to just shut it down, and I have never had a problem doing that.

One of madams friends has tickets to see Diana Ross at Lytham Festival tonight. Have told her to take ear plugs.[
Did she think DR was worth it, Ibbie? Feedback I got was that she was cr@p.

Didn't she hit a few bum notes when she performed at Glastonbury?

Good afternoon all, just finished unloading all the Canada Day bargain goodies, like huge t-bone steaks, in preparation for a relly visit next week. Fridge #2 is in action. Weather is seriously humid, with cumulo-bumblies building - not a great day for moving fridges around. The AC will be in action by tomorrow. Paid silly money to refuel the truck, but everyone reckons it will cost even more soon.
I feel a movie is the only way to spend the afternoon - 'Bridge on the River Kwai', 'Lawrence of Arabia', 'Ice Cold in Alex', or maybe 'Flight of the Phoenix'?
Definitely not 'Ice Station Zebra".

I've just finished reading Korda's biography of Lawrence of Arabia. Highly recommended. Amazin' has it on Kindle.

DR

Has been on the haunted fishtank twice recently, fust time Jubilee ? SM remarked that age had caught her, second was Glastonbury, should probably have swapped Macca and her round and now Blackpool overspill.

List of the top ten beaches in the World, from some website or another B-)

Take a look at the top 10 beaches below.

Playa Conchal – Costa Rica
Turquoise Bay – Exmouth, Australia
Grace Bay – Turks and Caicos
Siesta Beach – Florida, United States
Punta Mosquito – Holbox, Mexico
Secret Lagoon – El Nido, Palawan, Philippines
San Fruttuoso – Italy
Pedn Vounder – Cornwall, England
Boulders Beach – South Africa
Reynisfjara Beach – Vík í Mýrdal, Iceland

Think that one in Mexico could do with rebranding :D
When all else fails, read the instructions.

The body decided that sleep be abandoned at 4 am, gave up trying to regain sleep, so solved all the world's problems while laying there, funny thing though is that I have no
recollection as to the solutions I came up with, must be an age thing.
News reporting that we can look forward to the possibility of another flood (will be #4 for the year if it comes to fruition) with heavy rain expected to fall over the next 7 days,
all courtesy of a slow-moving East coast low, not looking forward to that. :-q

Noon temperature 12C, a little rain this morning but prolonged and possibly high rainfall forecast - see above. THe soil is saturated, so even a relatively low rainfall will cause flooding.

Re rainfall and La Niña, at least in NZ:
... La Nina conditions were most likely to continue during July-September, and there was a 60% chance they would continue during October-December as well.

"Should La Nina persist through or redevelop by summer 2022-23, the current event would qualify as a ‘triple-dip’."

Since 1900, triple-dip events had occurred in 1998-2000, 1983-85, 1973-75 and 1908-10, he said.
Otago Daily Times: La Nina's effects remain
"And to think that it's the same dear old Moon..."

When it comes to computers, we have several here which have been on for most of the time since we've been in the house. Extended power failures will take them down, and some have been down for new hard disks, and in the case of this one, a new power supply because having turned it off to replace the hard disk, it wouldn't start up again. My main server machine is currently showing 277 days since the last reboot, and that's when I upgraded the hard disks. One of my NAS boxes is showing 375 days since last reboot, and one of my off-site servers was up at 465 days until last weekend when I upgraded it to Ubuntu 20.04. Interestingly, it's showing my main router as only being up for 9 hours, so I wonder what caused that to reboot, because it wasn't me.
