'Sun Spirit' a recent permanent sculpture on the beach at Currumbin....one for Mrs OFSO to enjoy perhaps?

Looking South from post #80, the 'Golden Four' of - Currumbin / Tugun / Bilinga / North Kirra, & then Kirra, 'Cooly' (Coolangatta), Greenmount, Rainbow bay and Snapper Rocks. (around that point is the NSW Border)

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Afternoon folks. Very frustrating morning. Installing a new ground based Internet system as we now have a mast within range (4 kms). The satellite was giving us max of 400 Kbps sometimes as low as 2 Kbps. The new one promises 3 Mbps (one package up from basic). They came at 09.00 and said that they needed a 10m pole to mount the mast on which is another 10m. Sure, everyone has a 10m gun pole hanging around. So they went back to town and got one. Then fitted it up with wires slung between trees and the router dumped on top of the inverter. It was dinna time and they wanted to finish. Well they missed their dinna and routed the cable underground and fixed the router to the wall. They left a huge coil of spare cable at the top of the mast. That was ordered to be removed. I asked for the signal booster, CCTV and remote solar monitoring to be linked in. Beyond their pay grade. Phoned the office and they said they had installed internet and that was it. It is running at about 350 Kbs and you have to sit on the router to receive it, no remote solar power monitoring or CCTV. We still have the satellite system and we have not paid a single Pula for the new system so don't give a stuff. I will shove a Union Flag on top of the pole and pay nothing. A friend knows the reflective owner!

I upgraded my BT hub which arrived today with built in EE WiFi backup and mobile extension to all rooms. 150 Mbs download/30 Mbs upload speeds! Think of all the music videos I can't send to Ex-Ascot!Ex-Ascot wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 1:22 pmAfternoon folks. Very frustrating morning. Fibre to the cabinet. They are promising to the property by the end of the year.
I see that Woody's download is bigger than mine but I have a bigger upload!
Yes, yes Woody I know those are real numbers and you have the 300 Mbs package!

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
I bumped into my middle aged French teacher (a very attractive Belgian lady) on Sandy Bay nudist beach in the buff back in the day. We were both stark naked and she didn't bat an eyelid. She had a cracking figure for an older woman and I didn't know where to look, so I just looked her in the eye. She was a sun worshiper. Her husband was an air traffic controller who had come to the Cape from the Congo!

Puzzled! You should not get more than 80Mbps from FTTC (unless you have GFast) and that would mean sitting right on top of the cabinet. How does he do it? Which ISP and what contract? Are you a 'Halo' customer? Are you paying loads of moolah for it?

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
It is a BT Halo customer addition to my current contract/plan I can see the cabinet from my front gate. I could have shopped around and got a better deal but I just couldn't be arsed to be honest. I am definitely not getting more than 80 Mbs on the basis of my speed test at the moment, but the engineer is coming around on the 8th September as the final part of the installation so it is possible I will be plumbed in.Boac wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 2:39 pmPuzzled! As for Madame, modesty forbids me from answering that question!
PS- just checked the details for the 8th and there is some bumf about installing a connection box on the outside of the house. Looks like a full fibre thing.

On FTTC, I originally had a a contract for a 40+ but at renewal they said they could not guarantee the higher speed and put me down to a lower contract guaranteed speed. Paradoxically my speed went up.

TGG - I believe there was some talk that Halo customers (even including those who "couldn't be arsed") are entitled to some sort of fibre upgrade. Logically your monthly for fibre should be cheaper than the Halo price. You DID confuse me with the 130Mbps bit

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Not sure which package I’m on to be honest, although apparently 1st September I am due some kind of upgrade, as I run two separate networks and they’re being combined to improve things, also I ran other tests later which were even faster, so thereI see that Woody's download is bigger than mine but I have a bigger upload!

It came with this "disk" which extends coverage to the most distant upstairs room and includes automatic failover to EE Wi-Fi if the BT line goes down.Boac wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 3:20 pmsculptur Bring back the sprawl chicken, PN.............

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Thanks Fliegs. Mrs OFSO is currently working on the first new sculpture for three years (Covid, not being here, foundry went bust, owner threw all her moulds away and disappeared. Financial loss). Now here, new foundry, sold a piece so in funds to make more. New one depicts Achilles grieving over the body of his lover Patroclus, killed by Hector, Trojan War. Complex as two intertwined figures. Sort of thing that makes a foundry man's eyes light up: a challenge to cast.
