Post 19293 tango15 …. Yes, I too carried the universal washbasin / bath plug to Moscow, and toilet paper ! and the short wave radio. I was in New Delhi when Russia invaded Afghanistan in 19?? - Radio Moscow suggested that this was at the “invitation” of their friends and allies in that Country. Voice of America suggested that this was an unwanted hostile invasion, and the BBC a more moderate perception. Ask three people and get five different answers.

Dipsticks. Initially only available for 110 volts, but the F/Eng. and myself were once perusing a Bombay bizarre and found 240 V ones. We bought one each and went back to my hotel room, where I decided to check that mine worked by boiling a glass of water. Still chatting sometime later we noticed smoke coming out of the bathroom door ! Upon investigation we found that the glass had boiled dry, cracked and broken and allowed the dipstick to drop on to the towel I had placed the glass on and catch fire !

Fortunately we were in time to stop the hotel catching fire, and I looked outside the room and noticed a maid down the corridor, so beckoning her over I showed her the damage, offered some Rupees and asked her to please clean the bathroom. She agreed to and also said that she would “smuggle” the burnt towel out of the hotel without anyone else noticing. More Rupees changed hands !

Whilst on the subject of hotels, on a NY - Caribbean - NY return day trip I realised that I had left my electric razor cord ( pre-rechargeable days ) behind when I had packed for the day away, so next morning, in a different room, asked Room Service if they had collected my cord the previous day ? Dunno, was the reply, we have some so come down and have a look ? Help yourself, I was told, as I was offered a box of some hundred or so cords, so took 2 that fitted my razor.

Yorkshire tea in this establishment, me being married to a Yorkie n'all. I drink more of it than she does, after my stroke was told to change to the decaff version it tastes ok.
A funny sort of day on the Humber, you would think it was a nice blue cool sunny day and then every hour or so a squall comes through and it chucks it down for ten minutes or so. UK daughter and husband came to visit so lunch in the village cafe, very nice gammon egg and chips for me, steak for the Mem sahib, chicken goujons for daughter and hunters chicken for son in law. Apparently 2 for 1 on a Saturday lunchtime so only just over 40 quid with drinks..
All the best to those of us who are poorly we seem to have more than our fair share at the moment, my left nostril has a couple of little spots trying to grow just inside it, very irritating but fixable. The advice from Mrs 1DC was keep your finger out of it!
All this talk about SW radios has got me searching for my little Sony it was here in my study but somebody has clearly "tidied" it and now it is missing. I have found the aerial bag but no radio. I will have to search..

D#1, the CFI, asked if I wanted to go to Luke Air Force Base's Luke Days airshow today.
I had to inform her that while admission to the air base for the show was free, the greedy barstewrds are charging $40 per car for parking. X( Something that their web site info conveniently "forgot" to mention until a day or so ago. :-o [-X

https://www.lukedays2024.com/

This means that they will have a heavy police presence to deter folks from parking on the roadside, which I have done on several occasions.
One of my pet peeves, paying for parking! ^!

It's a bit dull outside at present but I'm hoping for some sun to appear and dry the towels I have just hung out.

Sun's out here after mist and then low cloud cleared. Monarch butterflies and Yellow Admirals flapping around outside.
Am going for a wander around in the public Rose Gardens this afternoon.

Hail, hail, the gang's all here. No we didn't have hail. Today as usual, brilliant sun to wake up to, now cloud has arrived. 5° out. Windy.

Morning folks. Broken Cu. Monthly rubbish run to the cage in the village. Hope it's not full as you have to try to throw it on top. Then the safari camp bar.

Mrs Ex-Ascot had a large monitor lizard in her bath in the safari bathroom yesterday. Took 15 mins to extract it.

I didn't realise you had monitors there, Ex-Ascot. We have them here too, and they are not to be tangled with. When I did reptile removals for an animal rescue organisation, I was quite happy to remove venomous snakes, but I'm glad I was never called out to remove one of those.

Morning all,

22°c, 26°c predicted by the runes.

A Calima still around we await a change of wind direction manana.

The Serb came and sealed the roof terrace prior to the promise of rain for the week.

Dinner will be Snake and Pygmie or Pig’s Cheek, undecided.

Yes well, she first presented it with a door mat to climb out on, it got under it. She then tried a towel. It got under it. Being scooped out with a dustbin lid worked.
