Just went and got the first trailer load of fire wood winter 2022/23. Bloke and dogs friendly. €60. Depending on weather 3-4 weeks.

Further to above: the Mem' pointed out that we will need the trailer empty and clean to transport the sculptures back after we return from UK. I have just emptied the trailer of firewood and washed it out. Pumped up one dodgy tire. Knackered.

This coming Sunday is the day the best car racing event of the year is held, the Bathurst 1000. The expected weather will have a significant impact
given the entrail readers' statement of up to 100mil of the wet stuff falling from the sky. The conditions on the 6k track can vary substantially, it may
be bone dry on the pit straight but pouring rain at the top of the mountain where the trickiest part of the track is, a good example is in the attachment.
The first video gives a great description of what the mountain is all about
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... t+panorama
I have watched the Bathhurst 1000 a couple of times on TV from the comfort of my little perch in the UK. That mountain section is mighty! I also used to enjoy the street race in Townsville.

Used to enjoy the action in the V8 Supercars Championship with my favourite driver being Kiwi Shane Von Gisbergen, who drives sportscars in Europe from time to time, but haven't watched since the series morphed into Repco Supercars. I see that Aussie Michael Masi who screwed up Lewis Hamiton's F1 world championship last year is now a senior bigwig in the Supercars series having been "let go" by F1 (or rather the FIA).

Good to see that Repco are still going. As a kid I used to support John Love who drove a Repco Brabham in the South African F1 championship until Dave Charlton bested him in later years in his Cosworth powered Lotus 72 D.
Co-incidence perhaps, I see that Phil Read has died at 83. His many battles with Rhodesian Jim Redman were classics. John Love, another Rhodesian started his career on two wheels, and helped Redman out at the start of his career in Rhodesia.
Born in London, England, he emigrated to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in 1952, where he began his racing career. He met with John Love who was changing from motorcycle racing to single-seat cars. Redman enthusiastically helped Love prepare and maintain his Cooper F3 with a Manx Norton 500 cc engine. In recognition for Redman's assistance, Love allowed Redman to ride his Triumph Grand Prix including use of his riding gear for his first racing experiences.

Congrats to Mr and Mrs Ibbie on 50 years! I shall never achieve that milestone, too many false starts.

Fascinating interview with Jim Redman. His story of being a child in England during the war is fascinating... and truly sad to hear about his father's and mother's fates. The story of his life is well worth listening to.

Didn't know where to put these, seems a bit flippant for the "war" thread.

Last year Mrs 1DC said "Fancy going out for your tea?" Me.."Don't mind, why?" "Think we've been married 55 years" says she. Quick check and she is correct.
We turn up at a decent restaurant and while we placer our order the waitress asks if we are celebrating anything we say we have been married 55 years.
After a very nice starter and main a pudding turns up on a nicely decorated plate as a gift to celebrate the happy event!
Air fares are going through the roof a business class flight from the UK to Oz has gone up a £1000 in the last month, think I will be staying in the northern hemisphere.

Thundery skies all day. Cats howling at each other in front yard. Two females after my attention. Internet TV down due to Scottish Power failure, or so the utility is claiming.

Good morning, sun's up, blue dome sky; 2°C now, expecting 17°C by mid-afternoon.
Seem to be at a loose end all day, will see what idle hands find to do.

Congratulations to the Ibbies on their half-century: Mrs GG and I reached that milestone last year, a double celebration as it coincided precisely with being let out at the end of lockdown. Not that we could celebrate too much - the only way we could go out for a meal was by sitting at an outside table at a local garden centre cafe, each hastily troughing a bowl of soup before it congealed. Still, it was a start.

Only eight and a half years to go before the sixtieth...

I was in a similar situation many years ago when the late ex-Mrs C16 and I were in a restaurant. When asked what we were celebrating she said “Being divorced 10 years”. :)) After the divorce we remained close friends right up to when she died 39 years later.

Ah, the joys of flying nightfighters. You get moonbows around your aircraft's shadow on the cloud tops, same as daytime rainbows.

Sorry, bit tired. Only dealing with one input at a time.
May I also add my heartiest congratulations!
..and to all the others who have made it work for so long.
