Morning all.

It's grey, damp and some drizzle is falling. This machine says 15c at present.

Thank you all for your good wishes for my hospital visit yesterday. They appear to have worked. Not the outcome I expected and delighted.

Saw one of the head honcho prostate consultants, who had taken the time to read my notes going way back. He spoke excellent English. Also when I looked him up, found he had written several papers on prostate cancer and well respected.
No time constrate on the consultation at all. He disagreed with the consultant at Marbella , who had recommended me to his hospital for radiotherapy, as the next step, on several points. Basically a new view on why my PSA is high, the two extremely small tumors that are in my prostate are not growing, as a comparison of the last two scans proved and are not the reason for rise in PSA. So we go onto active monitoring. Go back to see him in March . I am now his patient. That is pleasing , as he gives me confidence in him and his team, which I did not have with the people in Marbella. I feel lucky to now be under his care.

Morning folks. Great news Ibbie. Welcome back Reverend. Hope it was nothing to do with 10 Sqn that caused it. I have seen the photos of the Remembrance Service. Terrific. Thank you.

Nice day. May have mole crickets but haven't heard them yet. Horrible looking things. Just two holes so far but they may be old ones.

Morning all, -4c and a fresh 10cm, or so, of snow to clear, for the second day running.

At this time of the year I need to push it several metres, across the garden, away from the drive else the snow banks will be very high before the end of winter and I will have to throw it over them.

Rubbish car comes today and the priority is to make the bin accessible before tackling the rest.

Excellent news Ibbie!

We have about 5cm of wet snow here and still a combination of snow and rain is falling. +2C but wind chill is -4C. Can't clear the long driveway with the snowblower as being wet the snow in the chute jams solid within a few yards. Going into town later so this is the first opportunity to experiment with the 'Snow' drive mode in my electric car.

Yup, snowblowers are not slushblowers.
I resort to the Mk1 shovel at that point.
Our worst case, which we had three years ago, was a unique big snow dump in November, followed by a rise in temperature which partially melted it, followed by heavy rain to soak into it, followed by an immediate hard freeze up that lasted 5 months. Everywhere was covered in 4-6 inches of ice for the entire winter. It was OK mid Jan-Mar because there was enough snow on top of it to get some grip, but corners could be (and were to some) lethal.
Now I get out there immediately the snow stops falling if a temperature rise is forecast, even if that's 4am.

Exactly the same here.

Today, as yesterday, there was a good 10cm of fresh wet snow to move.

Used a shovel and manual pusher to move it.

Did contemplate buying a plough a few years back but snowblowers are useless except when dry powdery snow falls (below about -6).

Local friendly farmer, with plough attached to tractor, came by about midnight, last night, and pushed the bulk of yesterday's clearings down the drive and into the forest on the other side of the road.

I then went out and moved the "side piles" (can't think how else to describe it) away lest they melted and froze as the temperature was just below zero.

He will, hopefully, come by later and do the same.

He charges, I think cheap, 10€ a time.

He is an arable farmer and makes money in the winter by keeping the local roads and drives clear.

The temperature is forecast to be about -7 tonight and should not rise above -5 for the forseeable future which will make further falls easier to deal with.

My phone tells me I have taken 5780 steps today, the bulk pushing snow.

I do not need to subscribe to a gym!!

No rolling in the snow here. Just had a cold shower and hot again.

41o F recorded for overnight low.
Coldest temp so far this fall.
I guess that one of my missions today will be to assess the tortoises' heat lamp set-ups.

Evening all,
Been miserable all day 14c or so now light rain. The guess for tonight and mañana is miserable.

Been having trouble with outbound Internet connection all day seems OK now.

That sounds great news Ibbie wish we couldfind such a chap for SM's eyes, although the latest one is promising.

If it is as forecast mañana I think I'll play with the range extender.

Miserable up here also. Grey but dry for my morning's walk collecting fir cones, brief sun at lunch time, grey and raining ever after. Depressing.

Some of the farmers round here have a contract with the Council to clear the minor roads such as ours. We haven't had a Council gritter through today and obviously the Council don't think the situation warrants calling out the farmers - so the slushy snow is freezing and we have rutted ice on the roads. My farmer neighbour very kindly clears my 200 metre driveway if it gets beyond me but it's nowhere near that bad at the moment.

Up again at 04:00 hrs UTC. No good reason for it today, but it seems that I am hard wired to it now. Very cold here, -2 degrees Celsius. Just put the central heating on, God help us, when the gas bill arrives!

Tea in hand and all revved up with no place to go. Oh well, thank God for ops-normal.

Low cloud and gathering brume in the gloom out there.

If I eat late at night, 8-9pm, I am subsequently awake due to indigestion. Happened last night. Nothing to be done about it: at this time of the year, lots of dinners at restaurants with friends and it's socially unacceptable to refuse.

A bit warmer this morning - 13°.

A bit colder this morning, -11.

The good news is there is only about 3cm of fresh snow.

The high pressure that has been sitting over us for several weeks has moved off and the skies are clear, perhaps we will be able to see the aurora, which has been predicted for some nights recently.
