Also had to use a lot of hand tools as I suspected, and there duly proved to be, live wires where they shouldn't.
Still have the trim to do, but that can wait.
Yup, that qualifies as 'mostly' 😁

Son in Law in Falklands or Kabul or somewhere. She asked me hang 3 pictures on a wall. There had been a wall lamp but an electrician had removed it and disconnected the circuit.

I measured up, chose the centre, and sure enough hit metal. The metal drill bit soon sorted that out. The bang was very loud.

I think cable detectors work well but don't distinguish between live and metal.

On Wednesday we took out Scottie back to her breeder 50 miles away. It was 27 degrees but a comfortable 19 in the car. Duly stripped we returned home.

I lifted her out of the car, top coat gone but still a very dense undercoat. She climbed back into her travel cot in the car - cooler 😄

Baby swallows are everywhere - just fascinating to watch a dozen or so all lined up on the fence posts with adult swallows swooping in to feed them, then off go the adults again to find another morsel. Two skylarks sitting in the hover are chirping merrily away and earlier a Curlew did a flypast...life is good.

The temperature has already exceeded the hapless prediction by the ones paid to do such things. It's now 27 c and rising.
It must be heaven to get 8 days peace
Ed has had two walks. I have had an hours kip on sofa. Consumed an iced coffee and two biscuits. Bottle of non alcoholic white chilling.

Selected duck breast for tonight's meal, accompaniments still under consideration.

Now to watch the cricket.

Smoke detector went off in night. Walked around, no smoke...
I had that once, a highly unpleasant way to wake up at 3am. Turned out to be a failing smoke detector, but the immediate wake-up, you have to assume the worst because you may have to get out fast. Fortunately back then I was single with no pets, so I could (possibly rashly) spend time looking for the problem given that I couldn't smell smoke. I think if it happened here now, I'd be getting everyone out before confirming it was a false alarm. Probably more critical in a US house made of wood than a UK house made of brick.

I took the battery out at 3.30am or there abouts. This morning I checked the battery voltage, 9.2v, and replaced it in the alarm. Ten seconds later the alarm went off and would not stop. Repeated procedure, same result. Diagnosis: faulty alarm.

(But only a fool would ignore it!)

Not really. It was in a room where only Arthur Brown could have set it off.

Morning folks.

23c already today, expect 30c to be exceeded again today. Yesterday peaked at 32c. Clear blue sky.

Heading into town shortly with Ed for our Saturday morning wander and call at lottery shop. Addition today is a stop at hole in the wall for tokens.

Should be another peaceful day. Chinese for tonight's eats will be ordered for delivery after 19.30, later.

More cricket to watch.

Cooler here, 20° on the mountain. South wind coming later. And also fresh orange juice from Mercadonna and FT from the news agent.

Morning everyone, bit of culture last night, Alfie Boe and Michael Ball at Hampton Court Palace, probably the most Middle Class event that I’ve ever attended, don’t think Lenny Henry would’ve approved of the demographic :D

When they not doing their impression of a snail they are parking in the road on blind bends, signaling left and turnng right, etc etc.

Woken up early by very lively thunder and lightening. Heavy rain on our metal roof. I usually like the sound of rain hitting the roof, but this was very loud! Weather guessers predict return to normal summer temps by tomorrow-we'll see!

We went to a Carol King/James Taylor concert near Atlanta. Nobody in the audience was under 50! All a bit surreal. Cracking concert. Saw them together in the 1970s in Croydon on their troubadour tour. This was the reunion tour for those 1970s concerts.

OFSO - your alarm may be life-expired, typically around 10 years. Most use radioactive Americium-241 as part of the detector, and it decays to the point that the alarm will trigger with no smoke. It's also possible there's a dead bug in there. We check them annually here at the end of bug season/start of heating season for that reason.

We are killing ourselves laughing. Neighbour opposite has been moaning for years that the owner (the widow Beatrice ?) of the land next to his, opposite us, will not cut it back, so a fire risk. He has engaged two witless young lads (French?) to do the job. So far, no hands or feet cut off. But give it time...

They started yesterday evening. Cut about a square metre before the strimmer broke. Today's excitement was throwing water bottles up the slope before climbing up themselves. And the bottles rolling back to the road before they got there. Three times.

Yes, Fox, I know about the radioactive element. It has to be disposed of properly, ie by chucking it into a French car parked with the windows open.

Afternoon folks. Very bad day in town yesterday to do all sorts of things we couldn't fit in with our twice monthly visit next week. Anyway got a new gun and smart phone amongst other things.

An Airfix C130 kit of mine bought in 1976 has been built by the safari camp manager using false nail glue and superglue. It cost £3.75. Looking at prices these days it is nearly £50.

What is going on?

Was typing away on a post, when it just vanished without trace.

Not in the mood for stupid hard/software today. Gas bottle ran out whilst in shower as well.

Bah! Humbug!

Many memories of Airfix kits that I built Ex-A : Bristol Freighter in Silver City colours with opening nose doors and car ramps: Aer Lingus Fokker F27 Friendship: Caledonian DC10: BEA Tristar (possibly also in Court colours): Jersey Airways DH Heron: BEA Vickers Vanguard and Comet 4B: BOAC Boeing 707-436 and VC10: Lufthansa Boeing 737-100: British United BAC 1-11. Even in those days had something against the fFrench as never bought the Caravelle.

Also remember a PanAm Boeing 707 coming free with Kellogg's Corn Flakes, which had a sliding lever on the top which retracted the undercart. Think you had to cut vouchers off packets and send for it.
