That's what I go to England for. Sunday Lunch at the Kings Arms in Teddington, Roast Beef and Yorkshire and a pint of Guinness, out back in the Garden.

Currently listening to the BBC shipping weather report and forecast.

Visibility? "27 miles"
How can that be? What about the curvature of the Earth?

Morning all. Was heading to a dog show yesterday, everything, including dogs, loaded into the van, only to find that the passenger seatbelt was locked, and resisted all attempts to fix this. So a quick change of plan, unloaded Tesla back indoors, she was not at all happy because although she wasn't showing, she does enjoy going out. Moved a load of stuff into the car, along with Kepler, moved the car off the driveway and put the van in its place (takes a few minutes to put it back down the narrow drive where it normally lives and we were running late at this point) and headed off.

This morning, took the seatbelt mechanism off to see if the usual trick of slackening it a bit would release it, but no, it is happy to eat anything I give it, so I'm assuming something bad has happened internally and I need a new seatbelt. It's also one of the things I'm not prepared to compromise on, so been searching for the part on-line (it installs with three bolts, I can manage that much rather than pay someone $200 to do it for me). eventually deduced that the part number is obsolete but appear to have tracked down the new one, and several sites assure me that it will fit my vehicle, including one that does it by VIN.

Hopefully they know how to fight wildland fires as the technique is completely different to structure fires.

A very productive day. Washing and then gardening/sorting out garage. Big Fella suitably shamed into helping out and doing what he said he was going to do for the past 6 months :D
Fettled the bikes too.

Someone, was it on this thread, mentioned getting rid of stuff.

Decided that I needed to get rid of all the computer "junk" a few days ago.

So sad to ditch the 286, the ddr2, etc. etc.

Then decided to take all the pictures, music etc. off all the old hard drives and put them on one hard ssd disk.

At least six hard drives I do not need, but nor does anyone else.

Then I went through my father's stamp collection, lots of inserts to the Stanley Gibbon's New Age and Windsor albums.

There are thousands of stamps, including a few rarities, does anyone collect stamps these days?

The collection, mostly UK and the Empire, takes up 3 chests of drawers.

We do live in the throwaway society.

Perhaps this should be on the "rant" forum.

2°C, overcast, some kind of precipitation falling, something white in drifts along the fence-rails.

Definitely a porridge-with-cream-and-syrup morning.
And with the morn, those angel faces smile...

Apparently, philately is still popular in the USofA - and China.

Whether there is interest in 'secondhand' collections though is moot - maybe the collector has to source their own finds?

I have absolutely no idea what happened to my stamp collection - lovingly assembled by me from 'proofs'.

I suspect that my mother dispensed with them to my nephews whilst I was at university - along with my collection of aircraft brochures gleaned from worldwide aircraft manufacturers - just by writing to them and asking.

I created a portfolio for the aircraft photographs using hardboard 'covers' and 3ft by 2ft card sheets bound together with ribbons - last seen under my bed at my parents' house.

G-CPTN's post brought back a sad memory.
My "Summer work" landlady (as opposed to my term-time landlady) sold off my carefully-assembled tools - nearly all arrow-marked, bought in Lisle Street in Soho - for scrap. Joyfully told me that she'd got rid of those untidy old things, and that I didn't have to pay rent for the first week 'cos the dealer had given her some paltry sum.
All those lovely Whitworth and A/F and BA spanners, robust screwdrivers, bags of nuts and bolts of all diameters and lengths, vernier and other measuring stuff... I could go on for ages.
Being a shy and polite young man I didn't lose my temper... she was MUCH bigger than me, too.

Decent day at the dog show today, BOS and an owner-handled group 4 placement. Considering I wasn't expecting to win any owner-handled stuff this weekend based on who else was entering, that's a bunch of extra points as a nice surprise.

Also finished at a (more) sensible time too, unlike the 8pm finish yesterday due to all the scheduling snafus.

What a lovely day. Only vapour to be seen is a contrail over the LAM.

Better half and our guest, her charming Aussie stepsister are still lumbering in the rooms above.

The weather forecast for the week is set to hot, hot, hot or...

Morning folks. Nice day. Just awaiting our maintenance chap, William. He is bringing 30 bundles of Letaka (bamboo type) so 'erbert can repair our fences. Now that is one thing he is good at and seems to like doing it. Then we want William to look at all sorts of little jobs that need doing. I am quite capable of doing them all but couldn't be bothered. He will shop around for everything required come here with a team of men and do everything in a morning.

37 bats today. A record for this year.

Just had to top up the pool. It is now green due to the flood waters. Chlorine will sort it out.

I mused over how funny it is the way we talk about people tonight....said to Mrs Fliegs "I saw Rachael from the old Gym at the shops today....I used to think she was a bit of a bitch....but shes lovely when I see her".... Mrs Fliegs "Oh Rachael, yes, shes lovely".

Sent this exchange to a girlfriend who came back laughing saying wow!...how true!!

The last lot of puppies we had two went down to the LA area, one in Hayward, one up in Redwood City, one went up to Idaho and the other over to South Carolina. Hoping I can encourage enough people to have six of our dogs at the next show in mid-September, Kepler (B-litter), Lucy (C-litter), Melody (D-litter) plus three of the E-litter puppies.

Here's the two LA puppies having a meet-up at the beach:

Saw a good description of dogs shows:
I pay money to run in circles inside a square while wearing a suit. Then another person also wearing a suit points at a dog that's not mine. No one gets any money for this, but we're all very disappointed when nobody points at us.
