I've been there, for one year.
More external insulation.
I'm stripping off my old siding and adding 2" of foam under the new shortly.

Neighbor across the street recently had an additional foot or so of insulation blown into his attic.
I was there when he was getting a spiel from a different insulation installer who quoted ~$10,000 + for the job.
A different installer did the job for less than 20% of the first quote.
I plan to have them do my attic as well.
If the numbers a correct the payoff will be less than a year and a half in reduced electric bills.

Roofs are good. Stopping air leaks is the cheapest.
The simple facts with insulation are knowing where the problems are and insulating/draughtproofing carefully - only the homeowner can do that.
Every contractor is paid by the hour and isn't paying any part of the subsequent energy bills.

A couple of houses back (more like a half dozen actually) it was basically a bungalow with an upper storey and the eaves were 'open' to the winds with 'drywall' inner linings that circulated the cooling breezes throughout the property.
Removing an electrical socket revealed a turbo blast of cold air.
There didn't seem to be a viable solution.

Morning folks. Clear day, cool start. We think that we have done the Company annual return. It is all done on line so not sure if I have pressed all the right buttons in the right order. Signing on the computer is a farce. Just had two hippos wander past looking for water. Last seen standing in a puddle. It is very concerning. They have to be underwater to protect them from the sun.

Famous people are unusual. They are either really pleasant and a joy to meet or just a snooty waste of space. I met the latter the other day.

One of Faraday's puppies is following in her footsteps. First weekend running FastCAT, Mini will have a published score of 24.51 when the paperwork is finally complete. That puts her top of the rankings this year (assuming there's no other fast Leos out there also awaiting paperwork processing) and historically that's a top-3 score. She will be displacing her brother, who is currently top.

At a previous place of employment I had numerous encounters with The Rich, The Rich and Famous, Those Who Thought They Were Famous, and quite a few other types.
CEOs, entertainers, sports figures, politicians, etc.
Just like amongst "commoners" they run the gamut from genuinely nice, caring people to stuck-up, total a$$holes.
Sometimes you just never know which type you are going to encounter.

Good morning all, Blue skies, currently 20C, forecast max 27C.
Had to go to Hardware Hell (Bunnings) to get some replacement kitchen cabinet hinges. I'd gone to the trouble of looking at their on-line catalogue and checking that the ones I need are in stock. Get there, and they don't have them. The ones they have are poor quality Chinese v the good quality Italian ones I wanted, and are more than double the price. Also, nowhere on the package does it say whether they are full-lap or half-lap. (I need full-lap.) I am going to report them to consumer affairs for bait-and-switch advertising. I complained at the shop, but they didn't give a rat's arris.

Karearea - Hardware Hell ? Well named. They have recently opened a new branch near us. The new one is about the size of 18 football pitches, now a 15 minute car ride away instead of the previous 5 minute walk, which they have now closed, and even if they have it how the hell do you ever find it? Last visit I asked a passing asst. and he had to get his phone out and use some App. He eventually said something like Aisle 23 G, but then sent me in the wrong direction !

Like you, we couldn't find the Online advertised object but four assistants using three computers evenually found it, incorrectly catalogued.

I suppose at least one achieves the 10,000 steps per day exercise ? Sadly, a couple of our smaller retailers have also had to close down as a result of their dominance, so the choice has gone.

Morning all. Wind has eased off (for the moment) but single figure temperature out. At this rate I will have to go and get s trailer full of logs - in May.

Happy St George's Day to all. Or if you live in Catalunia, Happy St Jordi ! He's the patron saint here. It's traditional to give a rose and a book to friends and loved ones.

Needless to say, the hinges aren't working quite as they are supposed to, but managed to adjust one. Got the 2nd one almost installed, then realised I had drilled the last two screw holes in the wrong places - measured 28mm instead of 33mm while working in the dark. That's the trouble with working when tired. Filled the holes with epoxy & will finish it in the morning.
