Morning folks. Absolutely perishing here. Those South Africans are blasting us with freezing wind. Looks nice out of the window clear sky. I rushed around at dawn to unlock and have stayed in my study ever since. Almost certainly lunch inside. Putting on my flying jacket and going to the pub. Their bar faces south as well.

There was a woman getting out of a car in town the other day in a sheep skin coat. I honestly thought that it was a sheep getting out. Quite possible here.

As they say in SA "Sheep, eish!"

You have to be a Saffer to get that one I guess! :))

I am with a Saffer and he doesn't understand. From Pretoria if that makes a difference.

I was born in Pretoria as well and thus can only opine that the best folks come from there! ;)))

Eish is the exclamation which many black folks in SA make to admit astonishment. Twas but a silly pun with relevance to the black builders I saw cooking raw sheep brains using gas fired paint strippers while I was over there!
Another usefully descriptive word you’ll encounter in South African English is eish, which may or may not have its origins in the IsiXhosa language. More a sound than a word, it’s usually used at the beginning of a sentence to communicate surprise or disbelief. So, someone might for example say, Eish, this music is kwaaai! And recently the meaning of eish has moved on, and it’s also being used to mean ‘brilliant’ or ‘cool’, as in, This music is the eish! I like to think that sort of sums up the South African approach to things, turning something unbelievable into something cool.
Eish

Vra vir die Suid Afrikaner vir die definiese van "eish!"

Tomorrow is my better half's mum's funeral and she has produced a wonderful scrap book in memory of her mother, based upon old photo's and some wonderful family memorabilia. The funeral will be Zoomed to relatives here in the UK, and to the many in Australia. A large throng of friends and family will also attend the commemoration service and the wake. I must admit that looking at the scrapbook and hearing the eulogy she has written has brought tears to my eyes... it will be a sad but memorable day I think.

29° out at five p.m. Is this the 40° of which the UK medja warned us? Even MeteoCat had an amber warning. Borrocks, as the Japanese say.

Bon courage for tomorrow, GG. Sadness and Grateful Thanks in one, I think.

The most unexpected and interesting compliment about Mrs OFSO's sculpture today. We ate lunch in the restaurant where we currently have most of her works on display. One Catalan guy was examining them so I called him over to our table. When he heard Madame was the sculptor, he said - - in English - - "look at my arms. I get goosebumps just looking at her work."

As we were leaving we said to one of the proprietors, "We'll be taking them away after next weekend." "Oh no" she said, "they look lovely here, leave them as long as you want. "

After seeing your catalogue pages a week or two back I can fully understand both comments.

Indeed. Thoughts with you GG.

Wind howling here this morning, and radar showing scatter out to sea. Gym, then to dentist for a trim of the new crown.

Morning folks. Yes indeed all the best from both of us for today GG. Jolly cold again but calm wind so far.

We found a dove chick on the path behind the house over the weekend. Decided to let nature take it's course. Well it did. We have too many of them anyway.

Got to go out into the cold again to pick a lemon for my tea.

We have ordered a new water pump now the current one is behaving. Still burning oil though.

Good Morning everybody,
Clearer than of late but still only just make out the shape of *Ibbieville* no detail at all.
'tis an improvement haven't been able to see Ma Lager bay for days.

26c with a guess of 28c, nice and blue.

Quite a shopping list has developed with at least four venues, a pain on Monday as it's market day.

Nil Further.

Seems to be a significant discrepancy in size between a couple of the chicks, and parent seems to have just one leg!

The first one or two get the best start on the grub.If things go well the others catch up.I have seen it on eagles nest were the smallest can't fight for food and eventually dies.
