Microsoft, it does not take much to make me angry!
I have been having a bit of trouble with my PC and my darling Other Significant took pity and took me down to the shop to buy another. Very nice it is too, HP I7 SS drive screen and all in a nice table top package.
But I need to get past this abomination called Edge!!!!

Download Google Chrome and set it as your default.
Life may not be the party you hoped for, but while you're here, you may as well dance.

Or firefox if you care at all about privacy.
Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.
Re: Microsoft, it does not take much to make me angry!
I ditched Chrome in favour of Firefox some time back. I do use Chrome on the work PC but that's because they prefer us to use it. I figure if it's their stuff then I'm less bothered.

What about Opera?
Re: Microsoft, it does not take much to make me angry!
There's no need to make a song and dance about it!
(I use Opera too on a couple of machines and a mobile and find it to be very good... I use Firefox in other situations...)

John - the Windows installation will have set Edge as your default browser. As soon as you have installed an alternative browser, set that as default. You cannot 'remove' Edge from the system as far as I know as it is part of the OS, AND in any case you may well need it for some sites when your chosen browser does not access them correctly.JH wrote:But I need to get past this abomination called Edge!!!!
I use FireFox but have Edge set with 'favourites' to those sites that will not work on FF or other browsers.
Best to install one or more alternate browsers as you go and see which one you prefer. (uninstalling the 'unwanted' as you go).
PS M$ in this respect is no worse than Android or Apple which will always install their own browser.

Another vote for Opera. Firefox is working on less sites every day, and it's DRM does not work at all. I watch catch-up TV mostly which required DRM to be enabled on may of the sites. Firefox doesn't work on any sites, Edge works on some, but Opera seems to work on them all.

Probably because the 2@s who write web pages only feel good if they use the latest facilities available in the toolbox, completely ignoring the fact that there are lots of people working with older browsers on lower speed connections. Apart from the DRM issue, there are now several websites I use for purchasing where the logon screen, after entering ones credentials, simply reverts to the logon screen as if you haven't entered anything. Go to Edge or Opera and it works fine.
I suppose it might start working again if I was to update FF to the latest version and allow it to furk up all my settings in doing so, but I don't fancy taking all the time out that it needs. Opera is preferable to Edge as Edge, on some sites, has the annoying habit of flashing a black page, with the content of the page you are going to in white, before revealing the page the way it is meant to be.

Re: Microsoft, it does not take much to make me angry!
I have Opera, Chrome and FF loaded, my default being FF. Intermittently it fails to run various sites, the BBC News site being one, It continuously cycles the home page, looks coincident with picture loading.
Not a problem with the other two.

Chrome is installed including all bookmarks sucked back from the ether!
Meanwhile the 'old' computer has staggered to the end of a reset (40+ hours) but too late to save itself and has been relegated to a minor position where it is used for CNC development (having two on that position will be handy).
