Re: Handsfree (Eric)
Truly saddened to learn that HF has passed away; I send my sincere sympathy to Mrs HF.
HF's courage, patience and gentle good humour shone through clearly in his messages here, bless him.
Rest in peace, sir.

I have just received a call from his wife, Mary, with the sad news. She requested me to inform you all.
Understandably she has a lot to do at this time and I will contact her in due course to obtain funeral arrangements.
A sad day.
Fair well MAN FRIDAY.
If you can get details of his funeral arrangements, I'll try to go on our behalf. I only live about 15 miles away from his home.

That would be very nice Jim.

Oh b****r! Condolences from me as well.
Would be great if you could get to the Funeral, jimtherev
And I heard that you recently lost the only pen you had!

I assume that will be written permission only, Ex-Ascot.
Right, that is enough. No one on this forum is allowed to die without my permission.

You only live twice. Once when you're born. Once when you've looked death in the face.

Good on yer Sir, Jim.
If you attend in your official capacity as Station Padre Jim, you might get to say a few words on behalf of all of his friends here. Of which there are many.

Great Reverend thank you. If you get to speak please mention how far flung all his friends on this forum are.

Isn't Botswana an outer suburb of London? Now far bottom end of Oz, just off the coast of Antarctica, now that's far flung dung.

Re: Handsfree (Eric)
Very sad to read of this. Little to add, except to say that it seems very sudden and given HF's demeanour, I wonder whether he was more ill than we realised.
My condolences to his family. It's a particularly lousy time of the year to lose someone.

Re: Handsfree (Eric)
Oh Dear I only came to this now...sadly after the New 'Friday' thread for HF., I too am very saddened I thought things were going so well for HF....it is truly odd to be all the way away down here, know someone as an online entity, never to meet in real life, and yet sadly feel their loss,...as you have known 'them' for so long, 'twas the same with Cape.
My heartfelt condolences to HFs family....I feel far poorer for never having met him, and now not having the pleasure of his interactions here.
Alison you surely have created a fabulous place for us here....

Very sorry to hear of the loss of one of us. Even though many of us have never met, we feel we know at least a little of each other. Reverend Jim, your attendance would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Handsfree (Eric)
Never, ever, at any time in my life, have I encountered someone who was so uncomplaining and upbeat about such a multitude of health problems. Yes, his Friday contributions, along with all the others, will be sorely missed.

Re: Handsfree (Eric)
Buggah!! Late on parade and just come across the very sad news.
When Eric had a major operation a couple of years ago, he was featured live on BBC East Midlands Today as he was being prepared for surgery and after the op. It was one of those very rare occasions when one could put a face to an internet nickname - I feel privileged to have had that opportunity.
RIP Eric, Fridays will never be the same.
My sincerest condolences to Mrs HF and family.

Yup
and yup.If you get to speak please mention how far flung all his friends on this forum are.
We kept promising each other to meet at the Exeter Arms on a Friday after our respective Derby chores. Never made it; indeed never been in; must rectify & sink a pint in his memory...
