But they can be charming, delightful and cute until it's time to strike.

Our Maine Coon seems to accept having his claws trimmed. The older cats swear mightily when it's their turn, but he seems to accept it. Just as well, he's getting big and heavy now and it could be difficult to hold him if he wanted to seriously object. Will have to weigh him next time we're both near the scales.

He was being cute earlier, Tesla was curled up on the couch and he was keeping her company, curled up on the floor next to the couch.

Friend and her daughter were sitting peacefully in their living room when to their horror Sunstone the kitten emerged from the boiler room (someone left the door open) covered in soot. Before he could jump on the sofa., table or climb the curtains (hyper active cat) there was a concerted grab, he was rushed to the bathroom and the messy process of scrubbing the cat clean was started. He hates being washed but loves the hairdryer. Then house cleaning started...

OFSO, most houses have a facility for washing cats. You just pop them in it, close the lid, hold it down and push the cistern button as many times as necessary. Probably not a good idea to try and dry the cat, though.

Excellent suggestion. Soot goes down the pipe. And not thrown in all directions over the bathroom walls by frantic cat. I shall bear it in mind. However today we are once again Labrador-sitting.

We had to wash one of ours once because he'd clearly been crawling under someone's leaky oil tank and was wearing some oil. He seemed to know what we were doing and why, because he didn't object. Apart from that it's mostly been kittens who get washed, provided you keep their claws trimmed they're a bit more manageable. One approached a dog (pre-Leonbergers) who was eating, the dog barked at him with a mouthful of food and the kitten ended up wearing it. that required a bath. We also had to deal with ringworm, requiring a wash with the medicated shampoo.

Mme Sophie waits patiently for some beef. Well trained, the dog not the beef. She likes visiting us....

When we collected our first GSD from a reputable breeder near Aberdeen (on the hottest day of the year in 1976!) the house's large back yard contained about 30 fully-grown GSDs who immediately began barking as we approached. However, the barking suddenly ceased and from a shed that had at one time contained a boiler & wash-house emerged a small, filthy once-white kitten which walked calmly through the mass of GSDs who parted like the Red Sea. Later the breeders explained that the kitten was a stray that they had adopted a week or so beforehand and that the kitten had now taken over the yard and enjoyed exploring the flue of the aforesaid wash-house!

Was greeted at slopping-out time this morning by loud miouws from the black cat wearing a ragged collar. Not starved by any means but put food out. If I can ever get near I'll take the collar off but it's very nervous.
