Spent a night in Bourke when Mrs 1DC and I were having one of our drives through the outback, the day we were there coincided with the funeral of some aboriginal leader/elder. We went for a walk in town which was all shuttered up and came to an intersection manned by civilians not that there was much traffic. They told us about the funeral and said the police were staying out of the way for the funeral would be out in force for the wake. We told them who we were and they suggested that we dined early and made sure we were back at our motel fairly early. We followed their advice. While we talking to them the cortege arrived a hearse followed by about a hundred cars in various states of repair full of aboriginal people. The aircon in the motel wasn't very good and we didn't have a very good nights sleep so we left at dawn on our way to Broken Hill, with the advice not to stop at Wincannia (an aboriginal town) we set off. The local Bush radio said that the police had been active for most of the night dealing with aftermath of the funeral but we hadn't heard anything..

1DC, back in the '60s Wilcannia was a neat little town with a couple of nice pubs, including some artwork by well known artists and a small main street with a range of shops. Things is different now.

Whilst we were in Broken Hill we had a tour of the Flying Doctor base and they told us almost every Saturday night they had a trip to Wilcannia because at some time 3 Aboriginal tribes had been settled there together but apparently nobody had thought to ask if the tribes liked each other. The tribes didn't like each other and most Saturday nights tried to settle their differences resulting in visits to Broken Hill hospital via air ambulance.
A good example of how people in country Australia care about folk. We stayed in Broken Hill for three days and ate breakfast at the same cafe each day, on the second day Mrs 1DC left her handbag by the table while we went away sightseeing. After a couple of hours she realised but we were well out of town so didn't get back until mid afternoon. The hand bag was there waiting and the cafe owners had already established which hotel we w ere staying at so that they could drop it off at closing time if we didn't turn up to pick it up!!

N.Y. man running 'Breaking Bad'-style drug lab inadvertently turns himself in by reporting a burglary
Matthew Leshinsky, 23, had called 911 to report the burglary in June, but ended up leading police to his illicit lab where investigators later found methamphetamine and ecstasy.

A New York man who ran a "Breaking Bad"-style drug lab inadvertently turned himself in when he called police to report a burglary, prosecutors said.

Matthew Leshinsky, 23, of Farmingville, pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine and other charges for running an illicit drug lab in Long Island, according to a news release from the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.

Leshinsky had called 911 to report a burglary at his purported business, Quantitative Laboratories LLC in Ronkonkoma, at 3:30 a.m. June 7.

When Suffolk County police arrived, they found broken glass at the entrance to the lab and later discovered what appeared to be "a clandestine laboratory" that made methamphetamine and dimethyltryptamine, a hallucinogenic substance, as well as other substances, prosecutors said in the release.

A search warrant led to the discovery of over 100 items of laboratory equipment, chemical reagents and solvents used to manufacture and produce meth, officials said.

Authorities also recovered $40,000 in cash, ecstasy, over three ounces of methamphetamine and more than 625,000 milligrams of pure ketamine. They also found over 20 plastic 55-gallon drums containing Gamma-butyrolactone, a chemical similar to Gamma hydroxybutyric acid, which is referred to as the "date rape drug," prosecutors said.

Leshinsky pleaded guilty to a total of 13 charges Thursday and is due back in court on March 20.

His attorney was not immediately available for comment Tuesday.

"This defendant was operating a 'Breaking Bad'-style drug lab and tried to conceal it under the guise of a legitimate business," Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said in the release.

"I want to thank the Suffolk County Police Department officers who keenly identified evidence of a clandestine drug lab during their initial response to the scene, as well as our prosecutors and other members of law enforcement for their collaborative efforts to further investigate this defendant and hold him accountable for the deadly drugs he put out onto the streets of Suffolk County," he added.

A newly remade bus stop in Te Atatū Peninsula hasn’t even got its electronic information board up and running and it’s already hit a snag, with the painted text on the road misspelling the word ‘Stop’. ...
Stuff: Bus stop or bus sotp? Botched spelling spoils Auckland bus stop

A good defence lawyer should be able to argue that someone broke in and installed the lab.

..and a really good defense lawyer would then win a counter-claim for victimization by the authorities for [Insert not less than 3 -isms here], for, oh, at least $37 million.

..minus their own fees of $35 million, obviously :D
