....and just remember - it's only just a car. It's not the love of your life, it's not an orgasm, it's not a good meal with a good bottle of wine - it's just a car.

Looks beautiful, Sir.
Mind you. I've never paid that much for a meal (or an orgasm...)

Utterly brilliant news, C16 Sahib.CharlieOneSix wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 12:37 pmAt last, after 8 months waiting and some four months late I have my Kia EV6 GT-Line S All Wheel Drive.
I know very exactly how you are feeling right now. I know that unwipeable grin that you just can't help yourself from showing. For months, perhaps years, you'll always have that silly grin when you have some open road in good wx and do that irresistable squirt on the pedal.

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
I haven't charged the car yet or driven it since I got home - I'm still wading though the 472 page handbook! However, the car had 15 miles on it when I picked it up and the dealer had charged it to 96% after that delivery mileage. I drove 34 miles from there to home and interrogating my car now from my study(!) using the Kia Connect app it says that the battery is at 83% with an estimated 245 miles remaining. So 279 miles from a 96% charge so that's about 290 miles from a 100% charge. Once I get to know the car systems better I'll post some updates but I was driving extremely cautiously so I don't think I'll get anywhere near 290 miles on a long 70mph journey. The WLTP range figure is 300 miles for what it's worth.

Interesting article in the Telegraph about mileage, and not behind a paywall for a change.

Tests carried out at 23° and 14°.
It's usually well above that in summer and well below that in winter, both for 24hrs a day. We've been waking up at six am to 26° for weeks now, and in winter it's usually lower single figures from November to February.

Welcome to the world of electric cars, C16.
You will eventually get used to the first two questions that most people will ask you.
How many miles gets do you get? How long does it take to charge?
Be patient with them, laddie.

I have considered converting my, somewhat classic**, 1999 Falcon XR6 ute. The vehicle was built to carry a load of a few hundred kgs and it has a 4 litre iron engine, 80 litre fuel tank plus heavy transmission etc all of which should add up to generous battery capacity.
I am just afraid it might be a project 'too late in life'.
**Your opinion may differ.

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
The "How many miles does it do on a charge?" question always strikes me as being a bit odd. How many people ask that question of any non-electric car, i.e. "How many miles does it do on a tank of fuel?"
I've been thinking about this, and well-remember not being able to drive my Mini from my digs in London to West Cornwall on a tank of fuel, yet the EV I have now will do that on a single charge from home with loads of range to spare. Looking back, lots of cars I've owned in the past would struggle to do more than about 200 miles on a tankful.
We tend to take holidays in the UK now, often driving from one end of the country to the other. Although my car can do around 300 miles on a charge, in reality neither of us like driving that far in a day now, so we pretty much never stop to charge on route anywhere, we just let the car charge overnight ready for the following day.
Enjoy EV motoring, C16!

My diesel Volvo will easily exceed 650 miles on a tankful.

Re: Electric Cars II - Not Silly!
But do you often drive 650 miles non-stop in it?
More to the point, does it just fill itself up whilst you're parked overnight, so it has a full tank the following day?
I can't help noticing that there are lots of irrational prejudices against EVs that just don't stand up to scrutiny. Real world driving for the vast majority of people isn't making lots of trips of many hundreds of miles every day. The average UK motorist drives less than 20 miles a day.
