Florida man bitten by 7-foot alligator he mistook for dog
The victim believed the reptile was a dog on a long leash so he didn't move out of the way.

A man survived an alligator attack on the Gulf Coast of Florida after he mistook the 7-foot-long reptile for a dog, authorities said Wednesday.

The confrontation unfolded at about 12:34 a.m. on Tuesday near the Warm Mineral Springs Motel in North Port, according to statement by Sarasota County Sheriff's spokesman Douglas Johnson.

The man was on pathway near the motel and "noticed a dark figure moving along the bushes" and believed it was a "dog with a long leash, which is why he wasn’t hesitant to move out of the way," according to Johnson.

"That’s when the alligator bit his right leg, holding on, and pulling on his muscle/tissue," the sheriff's statement continued. "He advised he attempted to get away at that point and felt the alligator rip a chunk of his muscle/tissue off."

A deputy happened to be nearby on another call and was able to get the man before the 49-year-old was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice, officials said.

A sheriff's sergeant caught the alligator and held it for a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) trapper, Johnson added.

The 7-foot-1 alligator "was removed from the property and is being transferred alive to Townsend Farms" in Labelle, FWC spokesman Adam Brown said in statement.

"The victim has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery," according to Brown.

Easily done. Walking back to my house late at night in Darmstadt, I saw what I thought was a large dog rolling in the grass. It turned out to be two copulating punks (and not, as you might think, an alligator.)

"he wasn't hesitant" to me means he didn't hesitate, but clearly he did so "he was hesitant".

They will be with the humans in the main house, and Llondel will have forgotten to switch cameras.

They went to the vet for their first round of vaccines, checkup and microchips yesterday. That's why it was empty for a few hours.

That is in the main house. Usually when they're not in there they're outside with visitors.

Only another week to go and they start disappearing off to their new homes, so the cameras will probably go off sometime on the 19th.

What will we watch then?
I've got to used to 'logging in' several times a day (and night) that I will be at a loss as to what to do . . .

Thanks to Llondel for providing wonderful entertainment over recent weeks.

If everything works out there might be another showing at the end of the year if Kepler gets pregnant.

Can't see why, it's a bit toasty here at the moment. It's noticeable that they congregate around the fan, although one of them seems to turn it off occasionally.

Something weird happened with the upload system earlier today, cam2 was stuck on a corrupted image from about 6am this morning. Every time I tried to delete the file it reappeared on its own. I had to modify the script to use a different filename.
