Fitbits, fatbits and the pain of keeping fit in one's dotage.

I woke up this morning feeling knackered, bits of me that I wasn't even aware of were hurting and I wondered" what the hell is wrong with me?", only to receive an e-mail from Fitbit congratulating me of being "in the zone" every day this week and for achieving over 10,000 steps yesterday after running on the treadmill, and I realised why I felt like I do, sore feet, sore everything!

So encouraged was I by this breakthrough that I skipped gym this morning and took two Ibuprofen and already feel better for doing nothing today! =))

Are there any other folk here who are Fitbit junkies, and if so so can they suggest what can one do to escape the cult?

I've never heard of Fit bit so cannot say. I use a Xiaomi band, €35, Zepp Life app on Xiaomi phone. And yes I am addicted. Best continuous sequence of minimum 5000 steps was 99 days. Currently on 92. By midday today I have done 7000 which is typical. Plus biceps etc three times a week. Great fun.

Incidently blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol, resting heartbeat, all better than at any time in my life.

I have no truck with any of these fitness items. I play golf 3 times per week so walk 5 or 6 miles each time. I garden, cut lawns, do housework (Mrs S has severe arthritis and other debilitating conditions so cannot do much) and am generally busy most days so do not feel the need to utilise new fangled fitness gimmicks. I am only marginally heavier than I was 40 years ago and still wear the same waist size trousers as I did then. I eat what I like, I also drink beer, wine, whiskey, G&Ts and anything else that takes my fancy and have normal blood pressure. Don't feel the need to keep checking on medical conditions or ensuring that I do certain exercise.
Life is too short, get on and enjoy it.

Being mistrustful of all general practioners, who seem to get fixated on the first thing you say or display and don't read the info on what they prescribe, on those very very rare occasions when I'm up on a charge before the medical beak, I like to have facts and figures at my fingertips to refute his imagined problems and fictional cures. "It is part of the cure to wish to be cured."

Seneca was in the right of it.
