I know it might before be I die and I know that I will cry when that I might not see those roundels on the upper wingfaces of when I see those wings when I fly a rolling loop in one of those things, some day.

I've had the good fortune to do just this. Here's a view of those roundels for you, turning around the Needles:

Having sat in the Bell XV-15 tilt rotor at Arlington, Texas, some 40 years ago and been entralled by it, I'd always hoped the Bell 609 might have made it into the civvy market before I retired. It was not to be. It's now renamed as the Leonardo AW609 and the launch customer is Bristow Helicopters.

Never had any desire to fly anything commercial. The idea of responsibility for 100s of pax filled me with fear.

My dear chap I had 400 down the back on the A300-600 and many down the back in the Royal Air Force which if I had screwed up could have changed the history of the UK. I soon realised that No.1 counts. The pilot is usually the first to arrive on the scene of an accident. Get yourself down in one piece and all the rest just follow you. OK. para dropping was a bit different. I was on my own so were they.

Apart from the risk to yourself, in many ways it is a shame that you didn't screw up with some of your pax on board

Yep flew one as a baby but then Her Royal Highness The PoW would have gone in. Only flew the other one in question a few times. He once grabbed my flying gloves off the coaming and gave the Stn Cdr, saluting on the apron, a 'V' sign saying he thought that it would be me.

Only ever flew the Conservatives. All were good eggs.

We actually flew a couple of labour too and they were good guys too. Most Labour defence were good until the Blair era, though Fred Mulley set the stage.

.....but have flown in. As a non-pilot I couldn't but the back seat ride I had in a Buccaneer was phantasmagorical. The pilot had heard me say to an old mate in the crew diner "I've never been airsick in 27 years of flying and I don't intend to start today". Clearly made a mental note, cocky ***** I'll sort him out later. And he worked hard to try and do it - and failed. I would have loved to be driving it myself.
After we landed he was peering into the rear cockpit as the ground crew guy was sorting out the pins for me and asked if I was OK "Of course why wouldn't I be?" On the ground he patted my leg pockets (looking for a honk bag) " I haven't stolen anything" I said.
