A pal at work religiously did the drains on all the based 1-11s into jerry cans. Particularly easy on the 1-11 as the drain point was at the wing root, naturally, and was therefore easy to reach.
Jet A1 is super paraffin and he ran his oil fired CH on it supplemented by normal CH oil.
All went well until the floor of his tank rusted away.

Yes, and that's the problem with parafin heaters in the house. Nice smell, pity about the water vapour.

Indeed - and big end replacement (and rebores).

At one stage I used to trawl scrapyards for replacement engines for my old bangers . . .

In my box of tricks in the loft I recently came across a 1967 invoice for a decoke on my Hillman Super Minx from the Hilltop Garage just outside Helston - £13- 7s-10d.

Hilltop Garage would have been owned by the Brindley family at that time. Went to school in Helston with the son, John.
