Any ideas? And why are those little sheds at the end of airport runways always painted in red and white blocks?

Indeed - how am I supposed to fly an ILS if I cannot see the transmitter?

4mastacker is correct.
In North America, they are Orange and White, but the pattern/sizing is the same as the Red/White.
Note that if the object is less than 3.2m/10.5ft high, it will be a solid colour (i.e. Red, Orange, or sometimes White), not checkerboard.
Whilst most aircraft will not 'encounter' these objects, some common scenarios where the marking is useful include:
helicopters hover-taxiing
helicopters and V/STOL aircraft landing other than on runways
large aircraft manoeuvring where wingtips extend beyond the taxiway/runway edges
decision making in emergency situations, e.g. deciding whether to use emergency gear-retract after a runway excursion
..and, of course, airfield beat-ups (not that I'd know anything about that..oh, no. I deny everything. Those photos are fake. I have an alibi.)
Perfect example here - pilot just higher than the marked pole

A friend of my parents was very concerned about a fuel farm being built at the south side of MAN near to his house. He thought that all the aircraft going there to refuel would be very noisy. He was a lawyer!
Mrs Ex- Ascot has just commented that here at MUB you have to go to the fuel pumps to refuel.

Re: Questions asked and not yet answered...
I wouldn't put it past them.
I remember a rescue way out in the Atlantic where a Nimrod dropped a dinghy to a shipwrecked sailor whilst it was still blowing a hoolie.
He made it into the dinghy and was picked up later.
"You'd have to drop it from 10 feet for it to land anywhere near him" said a QWI
"Yeah, it was about that" said the Nimrod Captain.

Our lowest "authorized" altitude in peace time was 200', I spent many many hours, mid-Atlantic at 200. War time we were "allowed" to patrol at 100'.. I have flown lower....Fox3WheresMyBanana wrote: ↑Wed Dec 28, 2022 7:07 pmI wouldn't put it past them.

First, have we got an Agony Aunt?
Second, I've been watching "My Family" and I'm only on season 3, but yesterday I noticed I laugh like Zoe Wanamaker. Should I be worried?
