Massive breakout! Searchlights, whistles and running feet!

It was a seemingly well coordinated break-out by male and female detainees and took hours to contain.

Witnesses report that it was juveniles who started the breakout who by clever penetration and sustained force opened a way through the wire. Once free they broke away in different directions, some running pell mell while others paused to pillage food and flowers etc along their path.

The heavyweight inmates followed and may actually have been assisted by a warden who had failed in their lock up duties.

The majority of the escapees stayed in the immediate area looting what was available to them and generally socialising with others of their ilk who were also detained in the locality.

Order was finally restored by the efforts of a senior citizen and his semi-retired border collies and ably assisted by a comely lass wearing green-top gumboots and driving a Series One Land Rover.

With the brouhaha finally extinguished it was time to review the style of fencing around the lamb paddock and to ensure the various ponies were safely confined in their alloted spaces.

I am not aware of who he was and neither do I have a phone number for the wench in the green top gumboots.

Driving down the main road one day I passed a cow. I thought it best the slow down and follow at a safe distance. I rang 999, which one could do in those days, and passed the message for the police, which one could also do in those days. Unfortunately they could not work out which A road I was on - there was only one north out of Skeg. I managed to edge it into a nearby crew yard and knocked up the old dear whose house was in the yard. "Nothing to do with me" she said.

Another day on a C road I passed two pigs trotting down the road as they do. I stopped and was soon joined by more yokels. One had a rope and managed to lasso the male but the pig trotted over the rope so the free end came out under its bollocks. That was a master stroke and we now had him under control. His lady friend was quite content to follow her mate and we corralled them both in a roofless derelict farm building. No one had any idea who owned the pigs. I made my excuses and departed,

Pottering in my suburban front garden one morning when a large billy goat came toddling up the street and visited me as though we were old friends. I managed to get a rope around his neck and tie him to a tree while I rang the local dog pound. Turns out that's where he had escaped from. He was obviously quite tame, and the pound keeper just walked him back to the pound. Never did get my rope back.
