In the 1980s I worked for a subsidiary of Maersk, and regularly was offloaded when flights were filled with non-company passengers.

My passport has lain quietly in the drawer for years but my memory is still sharp enough to shudder at the thought of a transit through LAX.
Been in data comm since we formed the bits individually with a Morse key.

My staff travel claim is that I’ve been refused boarding in more countries than most people have been to :D
Yes, I can relate to that! Once got a freebie off Panair do Brasil, London-Rio-London, in 1964. The flight had a tech stop in Recife, and I was offloaded in Recife on the return. Ended up out of town for a few days until the next flight, and managed to catch malaria!

I found out today that I'm going there on Monday.

Long ago when I was working at small airfields I found myself FOC on a HS748, I could hear stewards standing behind my seat , their conversation went like this..
"Who is this FOC?"
"Oh, he is the aeradio guy at Milford Sound"
"Right, lets kick off one of these travel agents...."

Nice to be appreciated for the work I was doing.

Cruising across the Bay of Biscay in October :ymsick:
A passenger on the Spirit of Discovery has described "holding on for dear life" after the cruise ship was hit by a storm in the Bay of Biscay.
Around 100 people were injured when the boat veered to one side during a safety manoeuvre on its way back to the UK.
Most of the injuries were minor but four people were taken to hospital once the ship docked in Portsmouth, cruise company Saga said.
Passenger Jan Bendall, 75, said the storm was "frightening".
The ship departed for a 14-day cruise around the Canary Islands on 24 October with about 1,000 people on board.
A decision was made to return to the UK early due to worsening weather, but on Saturday the ship encountered the storm in the Bay of Biscay - a notoriously rough area for boats.
It was there that the ship's safety system kicked in, causing it to veer suddenly to the left and effectively stop. A Saga spokesperson said this was when most of the injuries occurred.
The ship was then held there until weather conditions improved.
Mrs Bendall, who was on the cruise with her husband, said they were in their cabin when the captain's voice over the tannoy told them to "remain seated or lie down".
When all else fails, read the instructions.

The reporting is driven by imagination! With the amount of weather information available to Mariners in this day and age why the ship was there in the first place I know not.. The worst storm of the year and the Bay was empty apart from the nutters and this feller.

I am sorry but the DM article is fake news.
We don't know how big a house 60-year old Richard has, nor how many children.
Same goes for Jan Bendall, 75.

A proper DM article would supply these crucial details.
Because they stand on the wall and say "nothing's gonna hurt you tonight, not on my watch".
