Strong winds blew my balls off

One of the large concrete balls topping our five gateposts was blown off last week during gale-force winds and ended up twelve foot below in the ravine. I climbed down this morning thru the heavy vegetation - avoiding the animal corpses thrown there - a struggle indeed and even more so lifting it back up to road level and then up steps onto the post top, where it's now glued into place with silicone. First time in thirty years....

If OFSO's ball can be felt but not seen, it is night time.
If OFSO's ball has white splats on it, watch out for birds!!
OFSO's balls will also sometimes include rules for proper maintenance of the system such as, "Please do not disturb OFSO's ball, it is a finely tuned instrument!"

And not one word of bollox in that bundle of balls!

Little know fact, a facsimile of OFSO's ball hangs outside the Halyards Hotel and Spa in Port Alfred in South Africa.

Port Alfred is also famous for 43 Air School, the biggest flight training organization in the Southern Hemisphere (see the 1/2 ball motif there too)! Strangely, it seems that 43 Air school eschew balls as the basis for their weather planning!
