Since we both have itchy feet and are always dashing about, Mrs Jim and I try to make 7:00 p.m. a time when we actually sit down together: a fixed point in the day when we actually look at one another and TALK. Tablecloth, place mats, white linen napkins. (My napkin ring has been the property of the oldest son of the oldest son... unto eight generations, all with the same initials. 'Ers is only 100 years old.)
For a precious 30 - 45 minutes of each day, we try to act civilised.
Then it all goes to pot again.
