When it's just the 2 of you...
...do you have dinner at the table (no telly) or on trays (in front of the telly)?
Or some other arrangement?
Just curious, no judgement either way

Depends on the sun. In hot weather eat on terrace under awning facing sun. In cold weather eat on terrace backs to sun. If no sun and cold, eat indoors in dining room, but as it's depressing might have tray on knee in living room.

Shove mouse and keyboard aside to make room for my plate! My beloved uses a tray with an affixed cushion and her favourite chair.
Been in data comm since we formed the bits individually with a Morse key.
Re: When it's just the 2 of you...
2 at the table in the dining room mostly (better view than at kitchen table).
TV can only be watched in the bedrooms and en-suite, so to speak, lounge to the master bedroom.
The public areas do not have TV.
Our northern house (single storey end of terrace) is open plan and we always eat at the table, the TV is off.
Telephones are muted while eating, even guests.
Does annoy my wife's children/grandchildren.

Both at kitchen table, TV on if at news time. On the very odd occasion...like last Sunday evening, as we were late back from Grandparenting duties, trays on lap with TV on as Mrs M had to watch Strictly Come Dancing results show.

It has to be at the table, innit? How can you have a proper conversation about LUE and the state of your marriage while the TV is on? In a similar fashion tea has to made in the proper teapot, it's terribly uncouth making with it the teabag in the mug/cup,innit? Where are people's standards these days? Good lord the country's going to the dogs.

Always on the kitchen table, breakfast separate other meals together. Mrs 1DC does have one of those cushion trays which she keeps a load of junk on and will stand a cup of tea on. No telly in the kitchen but the conservatory tv can be seen from the kitchen if it is on.I prefer the radio Mrs 1DC the TV.
Re: When it's just the 2 of you...
Always kitchen table. There is a tv in the kitchen so Hubs can watch the news/football or hockey games in progress-I try to ignore it. We don't have a dining room. A waste of a room IMHO. It would only get used on high days and holidays and probably not even then.

Always at table. Sometimes dining table, sometimes sunroom, sometimes deck, chosen for best atmosphere.
Candles and tablecloths more than occasionally.
Don't have a TV. That is, I can connect the big screen up with an aerial, but that only happens for storm weather forecasts if the internet is down. The screen is used for showing movies, or youtube stuff on a big screen.

Dining table, but it's in an area off the lounge so could see the box if required anyway - though view out the patio doors next to the table is better than the box any day.

It's just the 1 of me...
Most of the time at my desk in bedroom/office with TV and computer; sometimes with TV show, games, news, on other computer monitor.

Just the one of me, also:
... Life at the Taws moved in the ordinary routine of a great English household. At 7 a gong sounded for rising, at 8 a horn blew for breakfast, at 8.30 a whistle sounded for prayers, at 1 a flag was run up at half-mast for lunch, at 4 a gun was fired for afternoon tea, at 9 a first bell sounded for dressing, at 9.15 a second bell for going on dressing, while at 9.30 a rocket was sent up to indicate that dinner was ready. At midnight dinner was over, and at 1 a.m. the tolling of a bell summoned the domestics to evening prayers. ...

Re: When it's just the 2 of you...
When just Mrs S and self, either in kitchen at table, usually watching news on TV, if at appropriate time, but often Mrs S has retired to bed due to various health conditions, so she will have her meal on a tray in bed and I will eat alone at kitchen table.
If any guests present, children and grandchildren or non-family guests, then definitely in the dining room at a properly laid dining table. No TV in there.
Wherever, the cooking is all done by me. I will be cooking for 8 on Christmas day and probably 10 or more on Boxing Day (26th Dec for those who are unfamiliar with the term).

Re: When it's just the 2 of you...
Breakfast on the veranda chairs. Lunch at the veranda table. Supper, plate on knees in front of a film. We have a dining room for 8 but it is up steep stairs, only used for guests - those who can make it up there. Even worse, for those who are confident that they can make it down again. Especially after some vino.
Edit. Forgot the other option. The Edwardian round table in the living room when too hot outside for lunch or back is too bad for the benches. Utilising today on both counts.

Re: When it's just the 2 of you...
We ate at the kitchen table except when friends came round for a meal, then we ate in what the late Mrs R like to refer to as "the Baronial Hall". It looks impressive at 5m x 5m but when we first moved here in 2004 it was the un-used garage for the school bus, those roof beams are old telegraph poles. The lights were rescued from a junk shop in Scarborough and came from a pub that was being "modernised". The table seats 8 in comfort, 10 at a push, and we once managed 12 (including two young children) for a Burns Night. The table itself was made from an 8'x4' piece of heavy duty marine 5-ply suitably varnished and with substantial X-beam supports beneath.

It's on my Thomas the Tank Engine cushion (a Christmas present from the late Mrs R a good many years ago), tissues are essential as I have chronic rhinitis! My glass & cutlery had yet to be laid. Ignore the Santa & Rudolph at the window - we often have Xmas Dinner for my birthday in June.
