John is correct. No free time when you are retired....
Beautiful woodwork Hydro.

Wow! Absolutely beautiful, Hydro!
As for me, when I have free time (and even when I don't!) I walk (with) my dog. My Motivation Dog, that is, to get away from the screen!

Re: What I do in my spare time.
I spend a lot of time at our aviation museum and a couple of days a week I spend time at our local Menzshed* I have a good workshop at home but I do not like doing woodwork here as the space is limited whereas there is a great wood shop at the 'shed. There is also a big lathe there that I can use for jobs too big for my 12x36.
My big project right now is a fully functioning replica Link Trainer, very slow progress but we are getting there.

Thanks all.
Probes, unfortunately, I no longer have Beau, the workshop supervisor and client relations dog, but I habe daily visits from Maggles the magpie and Frederick the king parrot.
John, we have Mens' Sheds here too, fulfilling the same purpose. There's a fairly well-equipped one near me, and I'm thinking of selling off some of my machinery and joining it as I reduce the amount of work I take on.

Absolutely great!
On second thoughts, though, the "The shed is a great place for blokes to learn new skills." does sound a bit ... hmmm ... ominous? doesn't it?

I have introduced a couple of chaps to the delights of turning good metal into chips on a smaller lathe, now I can never use it when I want to!

Re: What I do in my spare time.
If you have good stuff in your workshop that you cannot really be faffed selling you can always donate it to the shed, that way you can still use it if you want to.Hydromet wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2024 8:53 amThanks all.

The drawers are so cool;......love it....
Life may not be the party you hoped for, but while you're here, you may as well dance.
Re: What I do in my spare time.
I am so busy putting off things that I need to do around the house I have no spare time to do anything else.

A few years ago went to visit a friend who lived in a retirement village, the amount of equipment they had in their Mens Shed was unimaginable. They also had comparable places for Theatre, Cooking,Dressmaking and something else the name of which I cannot recall just now. That was in Oz..My mate reckoned the Widows ran the Neigherbood Watch and it was the best security in Australia!!

Re: What I do in my spare time.
After retiring from work in 2015 the thought turned to what to do to keep myself entertained, enter my son asking if I would like to build another car
with him, we had previously modified two previous Torana sedans one of which he sold and the other was stolen and never recovered except for the engine.
This time he wanted to build and modify another Torana only this time to go all out, his wish was to have the exterior of a 1974 LH Torana but with a 6-litre supercharged LSA engine and a complete 2013 VE Commodore interior with all the accessories and comforts of the VE such as 8way electric seats,A/C
Power steering, Power windows Gps/Radio etc. This is what has kept me off the streets since 2015 with approx 12 months left to see it driveable
engineered and registered. I carried out most of the work while the son stayed at his day job earning the money to pay for it all.
Below is his Facebook page for the build from the start to the present day
https://www.facebook.com/LoHla.LSA I will try to post a pic of the paint job

Re: What I do in my spare time.
The photo does not do it justice, too many shadows. Looks a lot better than it did in 2015.
Re: What I do in my spare time.
Slight improvement over the early photos, Bob. I always admire the patience of people who restore old cars, to say nothing of their mechanical skills.

On the 'Boring' thread I mentioned Dismas the robber fly. Here he is. having morning tea.
