I teach people to sail-----and slowly trying to turn it into a liveaboard business.

We sailed across the Pacific and I still do not know how to sail!
Been in data comm since we formed the bits individually with a Morse key.

The smallest ship I ever sailed on was a 12000 ton tanker and when we sailed across the Pacific we went through the eye of a Typhoon, and we were supposed to know what we were doing!
It was interesting though.

I basically have been organizing "Flotilla" sails. I rent some catamarans in faar off places and then fill the cabins with friends or other sailors. We split the cost of the rentals.

In the past 5 years I have studied, sailed and obtained all my American Sailing Association, (ASA), instructor ratings and my US Coast Guard Master certificates to be able to Captain commercial boats. I am now starting a company that would organize Flotilla sails where you can learn to sail, then you "join" my "tribe" and can sail on future flotillas as skipper yourself. Still in the design phase right now, but am doing a sail in Thailand in April with 2 boats. Previously I had 7 boats in the BVI, 5 in Tahiti, 6 in Croatia, 5 in Greece, 2 in the Bahamas. Currently building my website, and hoping to merge from helicopters to boats later this year....although I will still do some helicopter work.

Logo is done.....and for ObsBoi---YES, as you can see, the gnomes are in the logo.......lol Website coming....

They have come a log way these days. You still have the "purists" who scoff at the cats, however some of the technolog these days is unreal.

Take HH catamarans for instance, they are sailing in huge waves, and able to sail at some impresive speeds with little wind also---and clse to the wind......

https://www.hhcatamarans.com/

I have some aqauntances who produce videos---this one showcases some of the performance capabilities of an HH55

Nothing wrong with cats and blue water.
I soloed a 30' cat across the Atlantic, zero problems. It was designed for offshore work.
And the other half of my sailing is on monohulls, offshore, so I can compare.
We sailed across the Pacific and I still do not know how to sail!
One is always learning. All I know for sure is that I'm not sure of anything!

In Bougainville, we were often visited by boats with crew that had sailed from the USA with very little previous experience (no cats that I recall). On more than one occasion, the wife was immediately off the boat with her luggage, and trying to book flights back to the USA.

I well remember the row of moldering hulks at Honolulu, we were told the owners had all done one ocean passage from the mainland and gone back home without their boats! So not just the women folk who became disillusioned with 'sailing'.

When I was interested in a yacht Mrs 1DC and I went out for the day on my mates 36 foot monohull on the Humber, it was a bit scuffly up to force 5. We had a good sail but the women weren't happy. On the way home in the car she said that the way she she saw it we had two choices we either got the divorce before we got the boat or after we got the boat! Somehow we haven't got around to getting a boat and my mate sold his not long after our day out..

I get all the passage crossings are tough.....especially on marriages....lol

The type of sailing I am pushing is light water, basically 7 to 10 day trips, sailing 2 to 4 hours each day from one island to another..... In the Bahamas, we were never more than 5 miles from land and anchored every afternoon in a tropical bay with beaches, fish etc...... All a little different from hard core sailing.

My motto is if "she aint having fun, THEY will not come back".....

The wire arrived, but it is too strong.
Ordered a thinner wire. We'll see what happens.
