This is a gathering of aero club members from various parts of NZ. They had annual competitions and prize giving etc at this airport and used the museum facilities for their evening activities etc.

The peaks are the foot hills of the Southern Alps and are about 30 miles away, the main range is out of sight behind them. The highest peak you see is about 6000ft amsl and the mountains behind rise to 12000 ft or so.

The snow-cover down to around 5,000' is a bit unusual for the time of year. :)

Yes, Saturday was the coldest March 16th on record for here. I expect the snow is all gone again by now.

It is easy to find, just keep flying until everything is upside down and you will be here. Of course depending on where you start from!
