Another runway somewhere in England?

I know that this topic has been rumbling on for decades and has become a political hot potato. Will anything ever happen? The last I read in the unreliable press was that the independent commission and industrial bigwigs were in favour of the third runway at Heathrow. The government has delayed making a decision until the summer :so they say.

Just interested if anyone has any updated information on the subject. Also would be interested in people's views on the subject in relation to feasibility regarding both airport and airspace considerations.

Latest news is that a third runway will benefit Scotland and N, England. How?

If it's a north/south runway and they make it awfully long. Wouldn't need to take off, just taxi up to Carlisle. :D

So the long awaited decision has been postponed yet again. And it's the fault of the fickle Brits voting for BREXIT. I wonder what the decision was planned to be; guess we'll never know. :D

So no doubt this whole political hot potato will rumble on for a few more decades yet; Or not perhaps? Maybe huge tracts of British countryside will have been saved by BREXIT. But it will be interesting to see what happens with the aviation industry; especially as rumours abound about some companies pulling out of the UK. :-?

So, the saga continues. Does this mean a decision may be forthcoming in the near future? :-?

If they ever stop dithering, it will be too late. Either air travel will have become obsolete, or will have diverted to other hubs in countries able to handle it.

Looks like "the powers that be" may have finally stopped dithering;

No doubt the arguments and protests will continue. .... :)

So, it seems that a decision will be announced this week, but will the vote planned for next year actually happen? :-?

It's good we are so decisive as a country - I recall the 'Runway' enquiry rooms in a Heathrow hotel - must have been 2001'ish?

It seems the 'government' may be about to announce a 'decision' later today, that a new runway will be built at LHR, but it seems that the 'decision' isn't final, and that there could be up to 10 years of 'reports' and 'enquiries' before it happens, if it happens.

In my view, wrong decision for many reasons. Again, Boris is right.

See my comment at #6.

It is Heathrow

I think this is the beginning of years of objections and committees and appeals. Meanwhile IAG will move their ops to Dublin, where I am headed this afternoon, and Heathrow will become a white elephant.
Just my thinking.
Gatwick would have been a better, but not the best, solution.

So, what was the 'best'?

Boris Island.
When I was 18 I wrote a thesis about the future of air transport in the UK, and that exact solution was what I proposed. 45 years later, Boris has the same idea.

Wrong part of the country for the Chelsea tractor drivers, old chap.

And you think Ascot, Windsor, Gerrards Cross, Marlow, Weybridge ........ are the right parts.
I think the Queen shouldn't have built Windsor Castle so close to an airport.

Ascot, Windsor, Gerrards Cross, Marlow, Weybridge ........ are the right parts.
No, I'm saying Heathrow is better for them.

Sorry, I see what you mean, but they're Nimbies.

My sister is a typical example. She lives in the Chalfonts. She's a 'socialist'. It gets better. She and her hubby travel longhaul business class 2 to 3 times a year, and much more frequently shorthaul. Always from LHR because it's 'convenient'. It gets better ........ they have campaigned vehemently over the years against the construction of another runway there. It's about the only thing we agree upon, but for different reasons.
They both drive Chelsea tractors as well as having a 'posh' car for when they go anywhere smart. Like all 'socialists', they're total hypocrites.
