Back at Chicksands on Sunday. No injuries, just lots of grins. In training for a 50k off road ride on July 8. It's the British Heart Foundation ride.
There's road and off road options.

Doing it for charity too. A colleague had a shocker of a heart attack and amazingly survived. He's just waiting for the UK CAA to grant his medical.

The 50k went well. Got a Sprint Triathlon coming up this Saturday. 800m swim in the lake at Woburn. 20k bike ride. 5k jog. Today I recce'd the 20k bike ride and then did a jog around the village. (ok - walked a bit).

The Sprint triathlon didn't really happen. Asthma attack in the swim leg nuked the rest of the event for me. So no cycling... :(

A couple of little rides this week. One with the big fella. Gorgeous day out. The weathe was perfect. Yesterday had a good little hit out with a pacey mate and an octogenarian pacey mate. The octo mate is having a few knee fitted on Monday so this was his last hurrah for a while. Quite a fun ride, a variety of paths, some roads, some easy singletrack. Only 2 grinding climbs and the rest was easy. Lots of pheasants flapping around.
The octogenarian was a classic study in always staying active. He regularly windsurfs and cycles. :)

I am not surprised at that result. It's about perception and reaction. :)

We were told at the beginning of Basic Flying Training that we would, on average, crash a car each by the end of Advanced Flying Training (mid 1980s).
This turned out to be true; 10 baby pilots, 10 crashes. However, the two motorcyclists didn't have a crash (of cars or bikes), and one guy crashed three times. Almost all the crashes were due to fatigue, driving long distances at weekends after very tiring working weeks. Neither of us motorcyclists were the best pilots. We were both fast jet, as were 4 others, plus 3 multiengine and 1 nav. To my knowledge, none of us ever had a flying accident. So, the only difference would appear to be the motorcycling experience.

Plausible observation there Fox. Obvs it's a small sample size but I think there's some validity. Perception of threat, fine motor skills to remain upright whilst negotiating threat laden environment.

I have been thinking about a stable mate for the G-150, a bit more XC/Trail orientated. So I tried out a Whyte S-120. 29er, 1x12, a natural progression from the Whyte T-129. Given the trails were damp and sticky, and I was a bit unfit for cycling, I managed to climb some grinding hills and even did the short punch climb I haven't been able to do for year. Very impressed. It's quite nimble for such a long low slack bike. Deposit down, it'll be here next week.

I bought it. :D Hoping to get out on it this weekend. I have had a cold which put a dampener on any riding activities.

I am loving this bike. The geometry is brilliant, so precise. The 29er wheels are so pacey. It does climb well but loves to go fast on the straights and descents. My "old" Whyte G-150 is going to the shop soon for maintenance. I'm going to upgrade the drive train to the SRAM GX 1x12. That will help it (ie me) climb.

I have three bikes, a folding one, a mountain bike and a road bike. All are sadly neglected at the moment. I did manage to exceed a 40mph speed limit on the road bike once, going down the A419 into the Stroud Valley. Also remembered the right-angle bend just before the bridge in good time, too, otherwise I'd have been trying for the long-jump record into the escape lane sand trap.

WD40 is your friend for getting bikes up to speed.

My Whyte G-150 is back from maintenance. New SRAM Eagle 1x12 GX fitted. 50 tooth rear platter...

Loving the SRAM 1x12 upgrade for the G-150. Climbs now :D Today was playtime on the S-120. Glorious day for it. 26km of road/singletrack/field riding at a reasonable pace. Knackered.

The Tour de France is hotting up. - or not. Huge hail storm brought the race to a holt.
