Banter?

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers who have taken the Oath, worn the uniform & even loitered in harm's way occasionally.

Banter?

#1 Post by G-CPTN » Fri May 14, 2021 6:55 am

I can imagine that what would have been considered 'banter' is no longer acceptable.

‘I was just in shock and so much emotion came over me – I was really overwhelmed – that I just burst out crying.’

Whether life in the services is poorer or better is debateable.

It would never have crossed my mind to goose anyone to lighten the mood in that way. One imagines that the victim might have jumped and been embarrassed as her Sgt or officer would have immediately turned to her.

Pranks and banter maybe but a clear line between that and physical.

Those women should not be in the military. On 10 Sqn we had many girlies, I had all but one of them (Nav) under my command. I can't imagine for a minute any one of my gals would have behaved in that manner. May get a slap across the face but that would be it.

Even with the airline a hostie would not object to a hand on her bum when serving on the flight deck.

Strewth, glad we live in the middle of the bush in Africa.

Surely they would have got a lot more satisfaction, and respect, by putting a knee in his bollocks than seeing him go to jail, but maybe the modern world is different.

It seems perfectly reasonable that a woman, of any rank in the military, has the right not to be touched on any part of her anatomy without her consent.

In civilian life, one has to ask whether one would feel inclined to touch one's female First Officer, or Captain on the bum in the context of operational duty and if the answer, is No (as it should be) then why do some people think it is Ok to do this to flight attendants etc. or women generally?

The line between a friendly pat on the back and sexual abuse is a thin one and it seems sensible to err on the side of respect and caution and keep one's hands to oneself.

Times have changed folks, and in this sense, for the better I think.

OTOH, in the USAF, many seemingly innocent expressions from time back can get you in deep poo.

An innocent 'you' re looking very smart today' now has the subtext, 'you usually look like a bag of shite'.

It may be true but you can't say it.

Of course all of this should apply to blokes to. No chap wants his commanding officer, or anybody else for that matter, fiddling with his sweet meats! :))

Let this video be a lesson to all of us!

I read that Ant Middleton of SAS Who Dares has been red carded by ITV and is off to OZ. Four women complained that he was rude to them on set.

I have just finished watching that Celebrity version and if anyone has grounds for complaint it is Brenda Cole after having to do a 17st carry for 500m on a beach and being shouted at in the debrief.

On the latest series I guess he got unlucky with the contestants.

I always enjoyed giving a few bottoms a pat when flying, but I only patted those bottoms that didn't seem to mind.
There were plenty that weren't up for it, but there were also a few girls you put across your knee for a nice spanking!

It's been years since those days though, more's the pity.

In the middle of the pre-start checks, the door opened and a voice said " What winks, whistles and fxxks like a Tiger ? We looked round to see Tart A standing in the doorway winking and whistling.

If a man tried something like that to one of todays possibly female flight crew, he would soon be sharing a cell with the late Epstein.

Fings have changed.

( before you ask, I don't know ! )

AK, I hope you were spinning a line. 😊

Yes your Honour, AK spanked me 30 years ago. I didn't dare say anything then as he was my captain and I was worried he would give me a bad report.

Seriously, I can think of several reporting officers over the years that I could have reported for bullying or lying but I couldn't be arsed.

There was one, not a bad bloke but one that was certainly culpable for lying and it could be easy to prove. One year my 1st RO read out my report. The following year a new 1st RO read out my report, it was verbatim that for the previous year. Both RO had asked my nominal boss for a draft.

You never know when sins of omission or commission can return and bite you.

Or degradation either, but then my antipathy to the WoS who did the draft was unchanged too. Just presenting the previous year's draft was proof positive of his work ethic. We lost count the number of half days leave he too, halk days were not in the regs and did not seem to affect his annual entitlement either.

Pontious
Ermm no. Was just like I put it.
I've also worked in a childrens home full of nubile sexually promiscuous girls, and am very glad that I behaved myself, mostly.
The repercussions could be impressive...

PN - On your item about reports, an old friend, an AEO who described himself as a tanker w*nker, told me his last interview during a ground appointment before he had to leave due to age/rank, was with a rock ape wing commander. 'He asked what my next RAF appointment was going to be and I had to politely explain to him that I was retiring in several months time and he could read all about it in my papers'. It's a small world because it turned out that I used to sit next to the rock ape at school so you never know what might come around, having gone around.
Call me chicken but I always valued my job more than the possible repercussions of smacking female bums. But some of the banter...
