What is the light like ?


On a separate note, I found my 5 D Cell Mag Lite the other day, after many years of wondering where it went
or what it had fallen behind. Amazingly it still worked (batteries hadn't leaked) but to think we thought that
was a good light !!!

The Eveready torch is a good option particularly the waterproof part. 500N I guess you would really like the AA batteries.

5 D Cell Mag Lite I have one 3 D Cell Mag Lite which I believed it was powerful - until LED come along history changing moment. Plus every time I drop my keys I come to appreciate the robustness of LED over the previous technology.

you just cannot believe the change that has occurred in torch technology in the last decade.
we had the old dull tungsten globes for half a century or more requiring 6 or 9 volts.
then came the quartz halogen that were heavy on batteries but could be packaged small.
then came the multiple LED torches that used less and less power. typically 3 AAA batteries.
then there was the organic LED based on the firefly chemistry
then Cree Technologies in the US blitzed the field with their little yellow squares.

who would have thought that the technology of torches would move ahead so fast.
I love the cree technology. robust, low amperage and incredibly bright for the size.

Looking at the LED exterior lights on my new Ford, I am amazed by the brilliance. Where will it all end ?

The missus bought some large and amazingly realistic LED candles in London. On and off with a remote control, which as an added and completely unexpected bonus, also turns the TV on and off...

I must say some of the cars with a few strip LED's under the headlights or in the bumper certainly make them stand out.
Which IMHO is a good thing. I drive with headlights on on darker days and on country roads.

I agree, where the technology has come in the last 10 years is amazing.

My car has the daytime driving LEDs inside the headlights; they are turned off only when the headlamps are on. The taillight LEDS are very pretty indeed, surrounding a mix of LEDs and bulbs for the other functions. All the interior lights in the car appear to be LEDs and are very bright.

I have had a 2D maglite since Adam was a lad, great but ate batteries, didn't matter before retirement, just went to stores for a pack. You lot set me off and I bought a Cree replacement lamp for it.

Wow (are we still using that) a revelation, the dogs don't know what has hit them, no more hiding from dad on the night empty !

You are saying you can replace a maglite with a Cree bulb? Because I have a 3D one and that would be a useful replacement? Any details that you like to share?

Let me look it up again and I'll be back to you, but the answer is yes, 2D to 5D there is a cree replacement. You in Athens - right?

cree bulb replacement deffo of interest here as well. details or a photo of what the replacement looks like please.

You may well be aware of a podlinian supplier in which case let your fellow countryman know please. I know you will be amazed. Doing walkround inspections at night the Mag was the torch to have, but now ! there are other options now but I like the mag as a weapon too, I am out dog emptying in the pitch dark and surrounded by wandering horses, donkeys, wild boar and foxes. got a fox in the beam last night at about 100m and he/she was really unhappy.
