Gordon Vette is one of my heroes. He would have achieved that status for either on those two achievements.
He was a near neighbour when I first moved to NZ, met him a couple of times. His son is a Vet. ( Veteranarian, not Veteran ! ) and has a TV programme about animal welfare.

.........one thing that you did know was that you were heading North!
or alternatively South from the North Pole !

Using "Grid Navigation" meant that having passed the Pole, one still steered "North" on the gyro compass, very confusing when picking up the first VOR station en route to Anchorage. The radial value was correct, but the needle pointed behind you !

I've previously related how one Captain navigated over the Pole by using a constant Sun position line, as depicted by two pieces of cheese fitted with toothpicks. Shades of Vetty ?

Never mind training pilots to navigate. How about training them to fly instead of just pressing buttons.

I just saw in TRABB how ExSpeed is blocked from posting in this thread. So I don't get the same I just wanna say to all you guys at USAF Arlington that you're doing a really super duper fine job in managing the GPS constellation and system. Never had a problem with RAIM either. :)

So please don't send any men in black choppers to my location. Send 'em all to Speedy instead! :))

Test - if you read this it is working again.

Edited to say Hooray !!

Caco, thanks for the advice, but your commands didn't seem to apply to Windows H'eight, unable to access a Run command, but managed to find various options to clear cache, clear browsing data etc. so something must have happened.

I will now go back to what I had tried to post, a comment in response to ex-Ascot, and his query as to whether pilots are taught to do anything but press buttons, having written it .. seems a waste not to use it, but apologies if you find it borin'

See my next.

Later, don't get it, copied my previous text and tried to submit, and got the Unable, 403 Error message again. Must be something in the text, but nothing obscene or even vaguely rude, some acronyms but WTF ?

Will open a beer.

Don't know of anything that could cause a problem similar to that you describe Speedy. Try posting the text to me as a PM.

PS that's unless there's something embedded in the text that is attempting to gain access to protected areas.

A six pack perhaps! This may take some time. The 403 HTML message is so generic....

ExSp - the only time I have generated the error is when I added a row of full stops at the end of the thread title. Are you changing the reply 'subject'?

Would appear that particular block of "text" contains something that is disallowed - possibly bad URL link or some malfeasance - virus/trojan.

For those interested, the problem was a forum software gotcha which will not accept a " and a ' side by side in the text.
