Air New Zealand to allow staff to show tattoos.

Air New Zealand says it will allow all staff, including those in uniform, to display their "non-offensive" tattoos at work.

From September 1 all new and existing Air New Zealand staff will be able to have tā moko (traditional Māori tattoo) and non-offensive tattoos visible when wearing their uniform or normal business attire.

Who decides which traditional maori tattoo is offensive?? Surely a full facial tattoo, whilst being perhaps traditional, would no doubt be offensive to a lot of folks. Hardly fits in to todays circumstance,, perhaps a challenge before boarding an aircraft will be next on the list of "To do's"

It's an odd policy.

It's a cultural thing for Maori but not for Pakeha (apart from older ex-servicemen), and as prospector says, who decides if a particular tattoo is offensive? Would Pakeha be guilty of 'cultural appropriation' or one of those stupid modern thought crimes if they sported a Maori tattoo?

The previous policy seemed to be pretty straightforward and not causing more than the occasional spat, so why change it?
