These ground handling companies have been on a race to the bottom for years, treating their staff appallingly, difficult to find any sympathy for them.

Most of the staff pass on the treatment they get from their management to the passengers.

And they all get disgracefully treated by the travelling public who have learnt to expect miracles and featherbedding when things go wrong outside the control of said management and therefore handling staff.

The behaviour rot increased when our EUSSR friends decided to ***** all over airlines for when things go wrong by insisting on compensation payouts out of proportion to the ticket costs. Yes, some airlines have treated their pax with less than care and courtesy in the past but like a lot of things in the Western world, like PC, ‘wimmins’ roghts’ and snowflake crap, the pendulum has swung too far in the wrong direction and it will hurt big time on the return swing.

A lot of those smug investors may find themselves losing out - it is obvious the UK government think that shareholders should provide the funds. Whether the Chump goes the same way ?? I suppose it depends on many shares he holds?

Maybe they should write to Delta and KLM/Air France, the major shareholders :ymdevil:

Or maybe they should look at their own fat-cat salaries, share options and pension pots and come join the average worker at the coalface remuneration rates in order to prolong the life of their company?
When the airlines go tits up they’ll retire gracefully behind the wrought iron of their gated “community” of fellow asset-strippers and wait for the next opportunity to snap up another airline at bargain-basement price from the receivers!
Did I give the impression there that I was a little angry? O M G! [-X

Now it’s official :-o
Dear Woody,

Notification of temporary furlough and support under the Government Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme

The ongoing coronavirus outbreak is having a significant impact on all of us, and we understand that you may be concerned about your job security, especially as it is also having a profound impact on our business, and our industry as a whole. We have been exploring all of our options and must act now in order to protect jobs in the long term.

As a result of this we have reached an agreement with your trade union to ‘furlough’ you for a temporary period of time. What this means for you is set out in this email.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Looking on whatever bright side we can, I see AF trying for a huge Euro bail-out. Since we are still a sort of part of the EU and in any case BA is Spanish owned, can we expect the same for BA?

Boac, you must stop reading the DM, BA is not Spanish owned and paid £300M in Corporation Tax last year, this deal ensures that no British jobs are lost for at least two months, when hopefully things may be a bit clearer, meanwhile I’ve got to finish decorating the kitchen.

"BA is not Spanish owned" - if you say so, Woody (my post was a little TiC). However, is it not part of IAG, a Spanish registered company?

Woody - following up on posts#132/33/35 - this is what 'Forbes' says (I don't read the DM...):

"BA’s CEO is not British, its owner is not a British company, which in turn is managed by an Irishman. BA is the International Airline Group’s low cost European short-haul airline."

Do you disagree?
