Monarch Airlines
Re: Monarch Airlines
Indeed - that would be the hope, especially for the AB qualified crews. There is, I think. one 737 in the company.

Re: Monarch Airlines
We have a friend in the UK at the moment for her mother's funeral on Wednesday, who was boooked to fly back to AGP on Monarch this coming Friday. Now whilst she is a UK Citizen and passport holder, the CAA are not willing to provide any assistance to her, despite flying UK people presently abroad on flight only tickets, back to the UK for free. They are flying their so called "rescue" flights out from the UK empty, so why can't they utilise this capacity to assist ex-pats in the UK to get home? They refuse. Double standards and not thought through by the CAA.
Fortunately had the situation covered and thought the CAA would be of no use, so booked a seat back for friend on Friday night with Norwegian, at 06.00 this morning for £63 before most people were awake and aware. That flight is now sold out, as is the flight the day before.

Re: Monarch Airlines
To carry a passenger on an outbound (currently 'empty') flight requires the selling of a ticket. In your friend's case there is no agency in place to sell seats outbound at this moment, although I'm sure this will resolve quickly and there will be a pick-up of capacity. Depending on how she booked her flight, she could could be eligble for compensation for the lost travel. The focus at present is ensuring that the ATOL protection is in place for those out of the UK.
Smart move on Norwegian, Ibbie!

Dry leased from Pegasus Airlines .
Re: Monarch Airlines
"Dry leased" - so, there will be a few 737 trained crews on the books.

Re: Monarch Airlines
As one who is caught by this, flights booked for Cyprus this week, i followed the text from Monarch to contact monarch.caa.co.uk. The result is address not recognised and defaults me to ticket consolidators. Doesn't say busy, so either been hacked by the consolidators or the usual incompetence at time like this..
My sympathies to all at Monarch, previous service has always been most satisfactory..

Lots of sad faces at BHX 0500 this am. Some pax had been told to come back tomorrow. Long queues at any desk open for ticket sales. Plenty empty seats on our 0700 departure on Jet2, though,.

There were also many sad faces at Luton today. It was their jobs and for many their total working life spent with the company. It was a family you joined and for some it was your whole career. Very few dissatisfied employees until very recently. What is two weeks in the sun getting dead drunk compared to that. I see that the great unwashed are all whingeing to the DM.

Prince Charles saw the headline "monarch ceases trading" and got very excited. Sorry Wingnut, it's not what you were hoping for

Re: Monarch Airlines
Got into the web site on the fifth go, ,message was contact your credit card provider or travel insurance company. Claim is now lodged with insurance provider.New flights booked ex MAN instead of BHX,to my surprise i have saved £200.£150 on flights and £50 on parking.
Good for me but i would rather be flying Monarch and have about 3000 people still in work..

I agree fully with your last line, however look on the bright side you now have the delight of Manchester, with the finest security in the country, and the return with the best, most diligent Border Agency staff.

Re: Monarch Airlines
You here all week Wodrick ?
The Spanish can't believe that the "rescue" flights are just into the UK and not for people stranded in the UK with no flight home to other EU countries. Can see trouble in the European Parliament when this is brought up and the CAA/Government heading for European Court action by the EU.

I think so.
I can't believe that either, but then it is the Campaign Against Aviation

Re: Monarch Airlines
Monarch ceases trading, aircraft grounded.
Aviation authority hires other aircraft to bring stranded travellers home.
Would it not have been simpler to pay Monarch to continue flying one-way to bring people home ?
Ignorant but Just asking.

Re: Monarch Airlines
It would be nice but once under administration the aircraft are impounded where they lie against debts. Life is less complex if they are in the UK, UK administrators etc. Once they landed abroad they would be impounded against local debts so no advantage. That is why they went into admin at 0400 when the last one arrived in the UK.

Two aircraft are on there way back to their owners today.

Most importantly, as of 0400 Monday Monarch would no longer hold an AOC and all their crews would be 'unqualified' to operate.
