See the French government is suggesting that Air France may not survive if the unions keep up their demands and/or unless Macron gives in to their demands. Net loss was €269,000,000 in the first quarter of 2018. (Source BBC News). This seems a lot of money to me. French government owns 14.3% of AF but says it will not bail 'em out.

Maybe SAA and AF should join forces. They are both riven by the same problems and mentality, although AF has a better chance of turnaround. Both should be handed over to private enterprise, the only problem being finding a buyer willing to take one the liability of a bloated workforce with a massive sense of entitlement.

AF is a rotting stinking albatross round KLM's neck, and the sooner they can divest themselves of the liability, the better.

Can't find this in any of the news media but I suppose it isn't news, any more than : "Rain forecast for most of England", or "African politicians suspected of corruption", or "Teresa May stuffs up Brexit negotiations" would be news.

French Air Traffic Control strike 12th-13th May 2018

We have been advised of a French air traffic control strike starting on Saturday 12th May, through to Sunday 13th May 2018. Like all airlines, our flights to and from France, as well as those flying in French airspace, could be affected. Also flights that do not operate through France may still be affected as 65% of easyJet flights operate through French air space and may be delayed before arriving for your flight.

We expect that there could possibly be delays due to the industrial action, therefore we advise all customers to check the status of their flight on our flight tracker either on our mobile app or website: www.easyjet.com/en/flight-tracker

Although this situation is outside of our control we would like to apologise to any affected passengers for the inconvenience caused.

What happens if my flight is cancelled?

We will contact affected customers directly via Email and SMS using the details provided at the time of booking and check in.

For cancelled flights only, we advise customers not to travel to the airport but to transfer their flights free of charge or take a refund by logging onto Manage Bookings on easyJet.com or using our Flight Tracker: easyjet.com/XXXX(yourflightnumber).

If an overnight accommodation is required, affected passengers can book this on the day their flight was due to depart through our Flight Tracker page easyjet.com/XXXX (flight number).

AFAIK it is the Marseilles ATC who are on strike so it is basically the south of France. Numerous other branches of French services (should be renamed dis-services) are also on strike, although as usual with the French it is often hard to tell the difference between people being on strike and not on strike. Trains are out on May 13, 14, 18, 19, 23, 24 etc etc continuing to the end of June or until the Mekon gives in.

Air France’s subsidiary Joon has operated its last commercial flights under the Joon brand and will be merged into the Air France mainline again.

All flights operated by Joon, as well as its around 600 employees, will be taken over by Air France.

The subsidiary operated a fleet of Airbus A320 family airplanes and A340-300 widebody aircraft. Its route network included both flights short-/medium-haul and intercontinental long-haul flights.

Joon was founded by the French flag-carrier in December 2017, in an attempt to cut costs and reach a wider variety of customers. In November last year, it was reported that Air France plans to discontinue the brand, to focus on Air France instead and not split up the group in too many different brands.

In January, the French carrier confirmed that the Joon experiment will be terminated.
