SAA Technical Fitting Counterfeit Parts?

#1 Post by ian16th » Sun Oct 06, 2019 12:50 pm

SAA Technical Fitting Counterfeit Parts?

1. SAA Maintenance gone to the dogs.

2. SAA Technical admitted to a “security breach” caused by criminal enterprises who are looting “hundreds of millions of rands” from the airliners, benefitting from dishing out the faulty items. Such blatant disregard for safety could put thousands of lives at risk.

Comair, the BA franchise in SA, have recently cancelled their maintenance contract with SAA Tech, and now have their maintenance done in Europe!

Something not mentioned in either article, what is the SA CAA doing about this?

What is needed, and quickly, is for the USA & EU to ban SAA flights till this is sorted.

Lufthansa Technik have set up a facility in ZA for the Comair contract.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

SAA have dropped most of their European services already, don’t think that it would affect them too much :((

But the ones they kept are the most profitable.

SAA would lose money if they ran a casino!

I don't think that any of their routes make a profit.

LHR is a massive loss maker.
From memory their only other EU routes are FRA and MUC.

October 19-April 20 Direct LHR to ZA

Virgin- 2 flights per day
BA 5 flights per day
SAA 1 flight per day
Then there’s lots via the Sandpit and also Turkish
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Are the BA 5, 2 to Joburg, 2 to CT and 1 to Durban?

Yes, but actually the Durban isn’t daily, but there’s a LGW- CPT 4 times a week as well, so for the sake of argument 5 flights per day from London to ZA.

Edit- the JNB flights are both A380 and the CPT from LHR are 747.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

To which I would add that the BA flights are generally within a few seats of being full in all classes, the SAA flight often has dozens of empty seats.

Don’t I know it, virtually given up trying to get to CPT direct , even with over 20 years service :((

So 16.5% of the BA A380 fleet spends all day on the tarmac at Jan Smuts/Joburg Intl/OR Tambo!

Over 300 premium class seats per day must cover the costs.

Seats unsold tonight :
FLT-ROUTE-UNSOLD-CAPACITY
BA058 CPT LHR 042/336
BA059 LHR CPT 002/336
BA057 LHR JNB 000/274
BA055 LHR JNB 000/469
BA041 LHR DUR 003/214
SA235 LHR JNB 010/249
SA234 JNB LHR 049/249

Makes SAA's load look pretty, specially when a lot of the premium pax are travelling on freebies/cheapies.
